As a wedding blogger and magazine editor, I have had the delightful opportunity to create countless wedding photo shoots to bring ideas and inspiration to couples planning their weddings here on the Sunshine Coast, – and really anywhere! The styling and concepts found here can also be recreated far and wide. 

This one, however, was super special. When people ask me what I would do for my own hypothetical wedding, I can hand-on-heart say it would be something quite like this. Romantic, dreamy, full of stunning flowers and flowing fabrics in a lavender colour palette with whispers of a wisteria feel. 

Today I’m giving you a mere a taste of what we have created with a stellar team of Sunshine Coast wedding professionals, because there is genuinely so much more to share from this incredible styled shoot. We don’t mind saying, we put together The Best bridal photo shoots for our free online bridal magazine. Capital ‘T’, capital ‘B’.

Today I wanted to show you a little sneaky look at what goes on behind the scenes at one of our shoots. Namely, this one that took place in a mansion private estate in Buderim for our most recent volume of The Bride’s Tree Magazine.

Vendors

The Location

Malumba Estate is breathtaking 10-acre retreat, is as glamorous and opulent as it is relaxing – think ocean views, lavender, wisteria, Verve Cliquot, and lawn games. The house itself is a sprawling Hampton’s haven with all the mod cons alongside its modern classic decor. A truly luxe setting for an ultimately private wedding.

Ceremony and Reception Styling

Our styling and floristry teams worked hard all day to install an epic reception table setting, complete with lighting tunnel. If you can have one big impact styling element like this one by Splash Events at your wedding, it will never be forgotten! Meanwhile, we can tell you that what might seem like a super glam job, being a florist involves a lot of climbing ladders and hard work along with the pretty designing side. Branch & Blossom definitely make it look effortless, though, and the result is nothing short of superb. 

The Beauty Team

Our hand-picked team worked together to come up with a romantic, natural hair and makeup style. Evalyn Parsons created voluminous curls in our model, Maddyson’s, long locks, while Melita from Boudoir Blush Makeup Artistry applied a gorgeous warm smokey-eye makeup design. Our celebrant, Beth, of I Heart Ceremonies  was also given the royal treatment – she looks right at home in  hair and makeup! 

Recreating a Pampering Morning

For this shoot, we really wanted to showcase the experience of having a wedding day morning in a luxury estate. Aside from the gorgeous location, it’s all about the little moments and special details, like putting on those pretty Pjs, and receiving a thoughtful gift. We dressed our model in the Hydrangea Blue Maggie Set by Piyama, and her gift box came from The Wholesome Gift Box.

The Cake

If you thought we were all tucking into this three-tier cake at the end of the day, I’m sorry to report that’s not the case. Cakes for styled shoots are typically made on foam blocks! However, the ever-lovely Jessie & Co. kept us all sustained with some extra treats she brought along to share. If I close my eyes, I can still taste her brownies… mm-hmm…!

Mock Ceremony

Our models, Tino and Maddyson, are a real life couple, who recently became engaged for reals! So it was very sweet to watch on as they experienced a mock wedding for the first time with Beth Stevenson fromI Heart Ceremonies. Then The Famos. Duo serenaded us all, putting everyone in the mood for romance!

Signature Cocktails

A luxe addition to any style of wedding is a signature cocktail… or several! We invited The Cellar Van by Vanteen Catering to come along and create their most aesthetically pleasing cocktails for us. Gosh, they didn’t disappoint, just look at these delightful drinkies!

Here to share her trend prediction in the world of wedding cakes is the always sweet Ellana from SweetP Cakes and Cookies.

The roaring 20’s – here again!  As with the start of every year, I reflect on past cake trends and wonder what the new year ahead will bring. Here is a little look into my crystal ball to see how I think cakes will look in 2020.

Organic + Natural

I predict we will see strength in organic and natural-looking cakes as the push in society for a sense of mindfulness and sustainability is at the forefront of couples’ minds. But that doesn’t have to mean boring. Think Kon Mari – the perfect blend of not-too-much and not-too-little.

Statement Florals

I think we will see simply-finished cakes almost being cheated of their minimalism with statement florals being strongly paired with clean-lined or softly-textured cakes.  This is where couples’ personality can come through. Dried floral arrangements creeping up the side of cakes as if it is growing out from the cake board, or fresh florals, reflexed rose petals with white space enhancing their colour and movement siting proudly at the top, or a combination of wispy, bleached, fluffy dried elements, perfectly balanced with fresh florals.

Colours of the Year

Panatone 2020 spring/summer palette features both brights and natural tones and I think we will absolutely see both in the wedding cake world.  Statement colours will come through florals or couples steering away from traditional white and incorporating a neutral tone as their base colour on their cakes.

As with every year, my advice to couples when considering trends is to take one or two elements and use them in subtle ways which is personal to you both.

If you’re on the hunt for your perfect wedding gown (who here isn’t?!) White Lily Couture Style Director and seasoned wedding expert has exciting news for you! Alera said next year’s brides-to-be are spoilt for choice and stunning trends are headed to Australia from the Europe’s bridal runways as early as August this year. From stunning pastilles and soft floating fabrics to sexy backless gowns there is something for every bridal style.

1.     Structured softness

International designer’s 2016 collections heavily feature gowns with structured bodices made from soft, floaty fabrics. The return of fabrics such as crepe and georgette bring a soft, romantic look to a classic fit and flair and ball gown wedding gown. For a structured gown with a difference, Pronovias has released a beautiful collection channelling this trend.  

2.     Party at the back

Sexy backless gowns are making a comeback! Brides looking for a sultry yet wedding-worthy gown should check out Enzoani – their simple gowns with stunning embellished details draw attention to a curvy bride’s best assets. Enzoani’s beautiful beading and lace finishes make for simple gowns perfect for a modern, sexy bride.

3.     Nice neutrals

In addition to classic ivory and off-white hues, designers for 2016 are playing with soft, neutral shades. Colours like caramel, nude and cocoa are a sophisticated and contemporary way to wear colour with a bridal edge. Mori Lee has released a beautiful new selection of neutral tones in bridal-wear for this coming season.

4.     Layer love

From a dreamy tulle train to a dramatic detachable over-skirt, designers are loving layers! Adding extra material turns a simple gown into a statement and creates an angelic bridal look.  Augusta Jones’ collection features a number of dresses that can be transformed by adding a beautiful skirt.

5.     Floral embellishments

This is such a delicate and feminine trend. While dainty floral embroidery has come around in waves, 2016 will see no restraint, with three-dimensional embellishments adorning bridal gowns.   This trend is perfect for brides chasing a bohemian look.

As far as the exchanging of wedding rings goes, on-the-spot tatoos at the ceremony has to be one of the most unique we’ve seen. And no matter your preference towards tattoos, you have to admit this is a beautiful and meaningful display of love and committment.

I love the choice of the anchor for the tatoo ring. An anchor holds much symbolism. Of course there is the idea that an anchor holds steady when things get rough, symbolising stability and strength. For some, it is also a symbol of faith, as a disguised symbol of the holy cross. No matter the personal significance, I cannot think of a more appropriate tattoo in place of a wedding ring. The added touch of the initial in the design makes it even more perfect.

Lots of flowers in many and varying vases and bowls makes a seriously impressive centrepiece for your wedding reception. Guests will enjoy mingling amongst it, and it can give a sense of grandeur without even being terribly expensive. Here are some tips to successfully pull off this floral wedding trend. 

Pick a Colour Theme

We love the fresh white and lush green look, but you can also utilise colour. Just make sure you have chosen colours that blend well and that will be represented fairly evenly across the whole table.

Work in Tiers

Basically, the tallest blooms should be at the back, and the shortest at the front – it’s not rocket science! The idea is that you should work with the idea that the view of the flowers front on should appear full and lush. From the side, rows should be evenly spaced. This is a 360 degree feature. 

Symmetry is Key

You want the same height levels from one side to the other, and the same kinds of flowers represented on either side, too. Try starting from the middle of each rowand working your way out, adding to each side as you go.

Keep Costs Low

It may first seem as though a table full of flowers is an unaffordable luxury, but in actuality it’s very simple to pull it off very inexpensively. Because they are all arranged very close together, you can choose quite cheap blooms, and you can even use simple foliage to fill it out. Sunshine Coast florist, Twig & Blossom, who put together this table even artistically placed leaves, which cost virtually nothing, in bowls in this particular feature table.
