Katrina and Mick assembled a team of ahmayzing wedding vendors to help transform the pretty, yet humble, Mapleton Farm Stay into a dreamy setting fit for their wedding day. The secluded spot in the small hinterland town was the perfect spot to hitch up a clear marquee, and drown it in delicious florals. 

Katrina was the picture of a country bride in her form fitting lace gown with capped sleeves and a subtle flare, followed by a sweet little train. Her darling flower girls wore dresses to match with the twirliest of tulle skirts.

In addition to her own DIY details, Tenille hired Jo from Coast to Country Weddings and Events to finalise the styling and to coordinate the day. A real treat that had Tenille feeling like she was on a movie set on her wedding day morning, as she watched the expert team commence set up.

The Happy Couple 

I believe what makes us work is that we both support one another’s passions and interests. We are both different people with different hobbies/interests and because of this we are always teaching each other new and exciting things. Marc says that what makes us work is patience – we are very patient with one another. Our motto is ‘the small things’, we appreciate the little things that each other do for one another and are always doing small things like going for picnics with our dog on the beach or going camping – we like to keep things simple.

Family Affair

Family is the most important thing in our lives. With Marc’s family and my brother and his family coming from Melbourne we wanted a location where we could all stay together before and after the wedding. I didn’t want a wedding were the ceremony was at a separate location to the reception, I wanted to be able to do everything in the one location so that it was stress free for us and our families. Many family and friends have young children and we wanted a fun location for kids where they could run and enjoy the day too.

A Lunchtime Reception 

I loved the idea of having a late long table lunch so wanted a venue where guests who eat canapés after the ceremony and then enjoy a banquet style lunch in the afternoon. I have always loved the outdoors, farms and gardens so Mango Hill Farm was the perfect location – I couldn’t have imagined getting married anywhere else.

Bridal Party Honour

We purchased the bridal parties clothes as our gift – I didn’t want being a bridesmaid or groomsman to be an expense for our family and friends.

Wedding Coordinator Bliss

I absolutely loved planning the wedding but didn’t want the stress of organising all the set up and pack up of tables/chairs/glassware/decorations/fairy lights on the day. I decided it would be best to leave that to the experts and Jo from Coast to Country Weddings did an amazing job. I felt like I was on the set of a movie on the day of the wedding watching Jo and her team transform the garden into my perfect garden party.

Gratitide

Two of my friends were amazing and helped me throughout the planning stages and I couldn’t have done it without them – I asked the florist to make me two extra corsages so they could be given to them when they arrived at the wedding to wear during the ceremony as a sign of how much I appreciated their help and support.

Peaceful Morning 

It was so relaxing in the morning, I had breakfast with my aunty under the jacaranda, my cousin was doing yoga on the veranda and the children were exploring the farm.

Biggest splurge: Hiring a wedding coordinator. 

Best money-saver: BYO alcohol and bargain hunting for craft items.

Kayla and Jesse’s incredible wedding was held at Kenilworth Homestead, a gorgeous rustic country setting, where there is room enough for all guests to be accommodated on site, making for a super relaxed affair. Biggest splurge: Having cinematographers, not because it was over-priced; we were so lucky to be offered an amazing low-cost deal,  because it was an ‘extra’ for us, a luxury that was worth every cent!

Best bargain: The flowers! I would never have imagined that we could afford to have fresh arrangements decorating the ceremony, pre-reception and reception, on top of bouquets and button holes, but with our friend Helen sourcing the flowers from the markets and putting them all together for us, we got it all for $300.  She was on the same page as me from the beginning and she did the most amazing job.

Accessories: Cousin’s 2 tired veil (something borrowed),  Grandmother’s gold and pearl brooch in my hair (something old)

Shoes: Hot pink kitten heels, Restricted from Shop Ruche

Bridesmaid dresses: Mushroom dress with pink lace overlay, Jayson Brundson from Myer.

Bridesmaids’ accessories: Ceramic ivory flower worn in hair from the Forest Glen Organic Market Place.  Rose gold shoes, not sure where from.  Own jewellery.

Groom’s suit and shoes:  Grey and black suit from Connor. Vans from City Beach.

Groomsmens’ suits and shoes:  Grey shirts, ties, black pants from Myer. Vans from City Beach.

Jewellery/rings: Our rings were also pretty special and unique, we had them made for by Eckart Schillings from Rings for Brides  Mine is a loop of tiny gold leaves and Jesses is brushed stainless with a single gold leaf embedded into the steel.

DIY: The barn at the homestead is completely bare to begin with, so the majority of the set up was DIY. Jesse made the timber bar himself. We made the invitations, the vases out of coffee jars, hanging tealights out of wire and little glass jars, flower balls out of book pages and lots of other decorative pieces.  We also put together the gourmet picnic baskets ourselves.

“The band was getting ready to do our first dance song, when Jesse scooted up to the mic and said ‘well actually, Alex isn’t that great of an MC because he forgot about my speech’.”

“We were so lucky to be able to have our fave local band ‘Mitch Davis and the Dawn Chorus’ play throughout our reception. We first saw them play at Utribe festival in 2009 and have gone to see them numerous times since, so it was pretty special that we got to share our taste in music with our guests.“

“For me, the best thing about our wedding day was encapsulated in a single moment.  It was during our first dance, the live band playing a cover of ‘Bob Marley- This is love’, when nearly all of our guests joined us in a slow dance.  We had just enjoyed some wonderful speeches, our bellies were full of good food, the tealights were glowing and there was just so much love and happiness in that little barn. And we were married.”
