On a typically beautiful day in Maleny, Madeleine and Corey got hitched. Their dream Sunshine Coast hinterland wedding was all about having a fun and enjoyable atmosphere with a hint of vintage charm. The lovely couple commissioned the likes of some of The Bride’s Tree’s fave wedding professionals to ensure they had an amazing wedding day.

Madeleine was a classically beautiful bride

On my wedding day it was very overcast however it didn’t rain and it just started to clear up as I walked down the aisle which was just perfect. 

We left our photographer, Andrea Sproxton, to choose the locations though we went to three different locations a stones throw from our Maleny venue. All very beautiful.

The weather and location were stunning-couldn’t have asked for nicer weather. Maleny is just beautiful at that time of year.

I popped a button on my wedding dress as it was too tight, and after the photos when I leaned down to put my shoes on it popped right off! I would recommend advising your dress maker when your wedding is two months before it is so you don’t end up getting your dress the day prior like me!

We decided to have a lamb and seared tuna entrée followed by chicken risotto and a beef dish. Desert we served the wedding cake as otherwise it just goes to waste!

Biggest splurge: My wedding dress was more than I wished to spend at $2500 otherwise the catering was the most expensive part!

Best money-saver: I was able to get the wedding cake included in my package which saved a lot of money. Besides that I think my florist was very reasonable for the quality provided.

Natalie and Orren broke tradition in so many ways for their Cotton Tree wedding. They had a very non-traditional, yet ever-growing in popularity “first look”, whereby the bride and groom have a very private and intimate meeting prior to their ceremony. 

They also took their bridal party photos before the ceremony, forewent a theme, invited children, and provided a picnic for the guests upon arrival. I love the way this couple took every measure to ensure their guests had an amazing day with very thoughtful considerations.

Pre-ceremony Photos

The enjoyment of our guests was top priority. Followed by music and food.  We had our photos taken before hand because we didn’t like the idea of our guests having to wait around without us.

A Long Engagement

We foster children with additional needs and have an 18 month old daughter of our own. We were engaged two years – we found out we were pregnant with our daughter, just after our engagement so the wedding had to wait!

Altogether Now

My brother and sister (sister was one of my bridesmaids) read the words to the song “Grow Old with You’ by Adam Sandler from the movie ‘The Wedding Singer.’ Bridal party were involving in the majority of the planning, we brainstormed ideas – this mainly took place at the pub with lots of wine! 

Children Welcome

We decided to invite children – we really thought hard about how we could make sure they also had a good time; magician, sparklers, a big box with balloons, bubbles, colouring books etc.. Having kids there, hearing them laugh and having them dancing with us was awesome!

No Theme Day

My best friend, who was in bridal party, spent the first six months of my engagement stressing that I needed to have a theme. I’m still not sure what our theme was!

Entertainment

We had a fabulous guitarist named Rob McMullen who played multi-genres: flamenco guitar, covers with singing and then later in the night he DJ’d for us. He was great and well worth the money.

The Food

When guests first arrived we had picnic baskets with ploughman’s platters (breads, cheese etc), we then had canapés and for dinner The Boat Shed ran a menu for us with a choice of three entree’s, mains and desserts – it was a modern Australian menu. 

Wedding Day Secrets 

Biggest splurge: Our magician – I booked him without telling Orren! And then said I’d  have crepe paper flowers instead of real flowers for my bouquet in order to save cash! Then the bridesmaids and I attempted  to make the crepe paper flowers without any luck, so I ended up with both a magician and flowers. 

Best bargain: Four Anna Campbell blue dresses for my bridesmaids – we bought them band new online from a girl who had got them from an Anna Campbell sale (after she had decided on a different dress for her bridesmaids). We got them for $250 each and they retail for $600.

Bridal gown: Anna Campbell Gown with a Babushka Ballerina tule skirt over the top (which was later removed for the reception). Cost Approximately $2500 including alterations. Purchased at Babushka Ballerina.

Accessories: Pearl earrings and bracelet – cheapies from Target and Lovisa

Shoes: Very light tan coloured pointy heels with ankle strap by Nine West.

Bridesmaid dresses: Anna Campbell rrp $600, although we got them on ebay for $250.

Bridesmaids’ accessories: Lovisa

Groom’s suit and shoes: Shirt Jeff Banks from Myer, pants from Rodger David, shoes from David Jones

Groomsmens’ suits and shoes: Industry Shirts from David Jones and own shoes.

Lisa, where do you go to cut loose and have a really fun time on the Sunshine Coast? 

Believe it or not….roller skating! I’ve roller skated since I was young and it’s one thing that I can do better than my own kids!

And when it’s time for a relax and a pamper session, where might we find you? 

Relax and pamper?  Hmmm…..I think I remember what that is, but it’s been a while!  Occasionally I get a foot rub from my husband…does that count?

Tell us a little bit about your experience as a wedding makeup artist.

I have been a makeup artist for 14 years after studying at the Sydney College of Makeup Art.  (My focus was on bridal makeup from the very start, even though I trained in all fields of makeup artistry.  The special effects comes in handy at times when the kids need a bullet hole on their forehead or a black eye, but I don’t usually need this skill for weddings!)  I have worked in Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane and finally the Sunshine Coast for the past 11 years.  There is nothing more rewarding than being part of a bride’s special day.  I consider it a privilege to be invited along and have some amazing memories from the hundreds of weddings I’ve done over the years, along with wonderful friends I’ve met along the way.  It is such a rewarding industry to work in. 

Is it important to have a makeup trial before your wedding day? 

Generally yes, however this is more for the bride’s peace of mind than anything else.  I have done many weddings without a trial first and haven’t had any trouble creating a makeup design that the bride loves.  Trials are great to nut out the type of ‘look’ that the bride is after (especially if she is not used to wearing much makeup) and also to go over a few essential things to ensure she looks her best on the day.

What inspires you when coming up with makeup designs for your bridal clients in their trial?

I like to discuss their overall wedding theme, dress and flower colours, etc., as well as getting an idea as to how much makeup they are comfortable with wearing.  I then start creating a style…usually starting off softer to show a natural look but then also demonstrate a few variations to the look.  Often I find that brides aren’t used to wearing much makeup and it is nice to show them just how different their makeup can look, bringing out their best features such as playing up their eyes, etc.  I love hearing “Oh wow…I never thought I could look like that!”.  That always makes me smile. 

What do you suggest your brides do to prepare for their wedding day, beauty wise?  

Definitely an eyebrow wax or threading at least three days prior.  This is the most underrated thing that ladies can do.  Well shaped brows open up the eye area and allow more room for beautiful eye design.  I also highly recommend a course of microdermabrasion or weekly skin exfoliation to ensure the skin is at its best. 

What makes your makeup artistry service unique?

We are a fully mobile wedding day service and include airbrush makeup as standard for all our makeup applications.  We have a ‘one price for all’ philosophy and don’t charge higher for the bride.  We only use the highest quality professional makeup products that are suitable for sensitive skin, photograph well but also look great up close and are suitable for the Australian climate.  The products we use are consistent throughout the Makeup 4 Brides brand with all our makeup artists.

What is on trend right now for wedding makeup?

Soft, romantic makeup is always on trend for wedding makeup.  We have just gone through a real ‘classic’ phase with soft eyes and red lips however a beautiful soft smoky eye and pretty pink or peachy lips seems to be the most requested look of late.
