Simone loves Corey | Cotton Tree Wedding

Simone and Corey spent a couple of years planning their Cotton Tree wedding, the key thing they attribute to its success. Having given so much time and thoughtful planning to the day, even an unexpected change of venue didn’t rattle them.

Their organisation allowed for a relaxed day and made way for some seriously sweet details, like the surfboard they had made which became both their ceremony signing table and guest book.

The local Mountain Creek couple were married in a beach ceremony at Cotton Tree, and followed it up with a reception at Maroochy Surf Club overlooking the ocean.

Simone has shared all her wedding planning experiences and best tips for those wanting a day as perfectly calm and enjoyable as hers…

The Proposal

“On NYE 2016 Corey took me for a picnic on Alexandra Headland hill. We then went down for a walk on the beach where he asked me to turn around and close my eyes and got down on one knee. His friend hid in trees and captures the moment, which is so nice to look back on.”

Wedding Planning Priorities

“After looking at many wedding venues we decided a beach wedding was important to us because we spend so much of our time together there. Good entertainment was also important as we love a good party.”

Ellishea loves Dylan | Chapel Wedding Montville

Ellishea and Dylan began and finished their wedding day at the seaside, and in-between their stunning ceremony was held at The Chapel Montville. When they returned to Maroochydore, their photographer fromRaconteur Photography took them to Cotton Tree for their photo shoot in perfect afternoon light.

The evening was spent with their 68 guests at White Ivy Lounge, mingling in the waterfront venue and eating delicious food and cake.

“Our biggest priority was keeping focused on what it was that we wanted. How did we want to remember the day? What did we want it to look like in our memories, pictures and video? It was so easy to get persuaded by what others might want to you to do, but keeping grounded and communicating with each other was so important. Once we had that everything flowed.”

Emma loves Marty | Alexandra Headlands Wedding

I simply adore this wedding in its humble simplicity, yet sheer beauty. Armed with the idea that they wanted a small, intimate Alexandra Headlands wedding that spoke to them as a couple, Marty and Emma turned tradition on its ear in almost every way.

“What was most important to Marty and I was having a relaxed day with family and friends. Hence we steered away from many of the ceremony and reception traditions and just did what suited us.”

First scaling back was in the guest list – only 20 people were invited along. Next they completely threw out the idea of having an expensive reception, instead ordering their favourite Thai takeaway to share with their guests back at the Airbnb guest house they hired for the week.

Not before they asked all their guests to stick around at the park for an afternoon tea of their DIY wedding cake and other delicious eats. No going hungry waiting for hours to eat at this laid-back affair!

“A relaxed dinner with family and friends suited us more than a formal reception!”

As well as stripping back wedding expectations, they added one super sweet tradition of their own. Together with their gorgeous toddler they built a sandcastle on the shore during their ceremony to represent their family home and the life they are building together. A life that is about to grow as their family has been blessed with the addition of another little one. Emma and Marty did well to keep the good news secret till the surprise announcement at their ceremony!

“As part of our ceremony we built a sandcastle with our two year old son symbolising the family home. My brother and sister-in-law read a beautiful poem entitled Home and Love while we were doing this.” “We kept the fact that I was pregnant with our second child secret for 20 weeks so that we could announce it at the wedding. My dress only just fitted!” “Our personalities are so opposite that they compliment each other.” “To find my suppliers, I used The Brides Tree and recommendations from other suppliers.” “One of my bridesmaids gave me the best advice during the planning phases. She told me to pick one thing that I love and something that is important to Marty and I. You get to spend what ever you want on the thing you love – there’s no budget so go absolutely wild. The ceremony and reception should evolve around the one thing that’s important to you. I love fresh flowers so my budget for the ceremony flowers was unlimited.” “Our ceremony location was so beautiful there really wasn’t any need to go anywhere else for photos.” “We cut the cake and celebrated with everyone in Alex Bluff park immediately following the ceremony. Guests joined us that evening at our accommodation for some Thai take away.” “I love planning and catering for celebrations, so most of our wedding was DIY. We made our own invitations, bombonnieres, cake and decorations. The bridesmaids and I did all of the set up for the ceremony and dinner on the day. It was a lot of work, but I loved it as everything was so personal.” “Nothing went wildly wrong thankfully. Although the bridesmaids made a “quick trip” back to our accommodation to pick up some food we had forgotten and ended up getting stuck there with the road closures for the Mooloolaba Triathlon.”

Gemma + Luke’s Buderim Wedding

Bride Gemma went by the philosophy that there is beauty in simplicity, and planned her wedding at Buderim’s Wirreanda Park and Ebb Waterfront Dining and Cellar as such. The reception featured greenery only on the tables, which looked beautiful and fresh, but also saved an awful lot on the old flower budget!

The bride’s personal style was contemporary and ethereal in a custom-made gown featuring intricate lace bodice and a full flowing skirt of grey tulle. Topped off with a white-on-white floral crown, there’s nothing not oh-so-right about this whole vibe. We love it!

Sunshine Coast wedding photographer, Gavin Wyatt, was there to capture the entire affair with his distinctly creative documentary-style photography.

Having our beautiful almost 3 year old daughter there to share the day with was so special. She referred to her flower girl dress as her ‘wedding dress’ it was very cute.

“My advice to other brides: take rescue remedy before you walk down the aisle and a glass of champagne, it stops you from crying!”

“I had two great Dads and an awesome Mum. When the decision had to be made, I chose my Mum to walk me down the aisle, as she had being waiting for this day since I was born. She couldn’t have been more excited when I told her what her special role was!”

“I wanted grey in my dress, and I wanted olive leaves to be features in all the florals.”

“The bridesmaids were given a box of French macaroons each. The groom plus groomsmen were given a hangover kit which included mini berocca, Panadol, band aids and breath mints.”

“Finding a photographer whose work was a documentary/journalistic style was the number one priority. As well as finding the right dress that was unique and only made for me!”

Natalie loves Jared

The sheer happiness this couple had in marrying one another is beautifully evident. The groom, Jared, will absolutely melt your heart as he is filled with unbridled emotion during their ceremony. Bride, Natalie, is clearly smitten with her new husband as they embrace after their vows at their Maroochydore waterfront wedding.

The whole bridal party seem like a whole lot of fun as they frolic on the beach for their photo session with Sunshine Coast photographer, Emma Nayler Photographer. After their beach fun, they all went back to the reception venue for canapés and mingling with the guests, then right on twilight the couple and Emma managed to sneak back down to the jetty for a few last shots. This meant they were able to sneak in extra time with their guests with compromising on getting those highly coveted perfect dreamy last light of the day photos.

Real Wedding: Chelcie & Joseph at Moffat Beach + Maroochydore

Ex-pats Chelcie and Joseph originaly met in their hometown of Christchurch, New Zealand. Chelcie was a just 19 years old at the time. 12 years and three children later, the happily committed couple made the decision to officiate their relationship with a wedding ceremony.

I absolutely love Chelcie’s heart-melting words about marrying the love of her life after having long ago committed to one another, and the unexpected feelings that came along with a marriage she never expected or aspired to.

Chelcie and Joseph were the super lucky winners of a $5,000 wedding package, which certainly helped towards the wedding budget, and gave them access to some amazing Sunshine Coast wedding professionals. Winning the prize package really kickstarted their planning and within six months they were saying “I Do” at Moffat Beach in Caloundra. Following this beautiful family-oriented ceremony, they had a fun party at Maroochy Surf Club.

“My gift to the groom? That was me arriving and walking up the aisle with a big smile!”

“We were lucky winners of the Sunshine Coast Wedding Package and had amazing prizes, which coverered or part covered the cost of many important and big costs in any wedding. The wedding total cost for us was $12,000. It would have been $5,000 more should we not have won the prize!”

“It was tricky having tow of the three bridesmaids live far away, but I created a group Facebook message system that all three bridemaids and myself communicated through, and on many occasions we were in fits of laughter over the funny smaller details of the wedding. It was a great way to get excited and feel connected to them all.

“I made up a box for each of the bridesmaids, prepared with all the goodies for the day. I enclosed thank you gifts, including wine with a personalised bottle cover of which read, “the best party is a wedding party.” Also enclosed was a shawl for the reception and the earrings for the day.”

“We are a relaxed couple that have matured together over time and enjoy each other and our quirks. We support each other in our little life projects and both stand strong in our commitment to ensure the best life and love we can provide for our three gorgeous children. I think this was why we didn’t get married for so long, we really didn’t feel the need for any more commitment, we had it a long time ago.”

“After 12 years together, and three children, we thought that our commitment was enoug. There was something amazing about an occasion just for us; the people who travelled from far and wide, and even close by, just for us. It was a beautiful and personal day for us and we will always remember it fondly, as will our children. I personally am happy to finally have the same surname as my childres as well – kind of like coming full circle.”

“We had a family feel (at our wedding.) I think we didn’t even openly plan it that way, it just happened. The rings were made by family, the song up the aisle was sung by family. The reading in the ceremony was conducted by family and the sand ceremony was to tie us together as family.

“As a young girl I never thought I would get married, and it has never really been something I aspired to do – but since that day, I believe it creates a beautiful connection and promise, not just between you and your husband, but between your family and friends that witnessed it, too.”

“Our two young daughters spent a long time researching and writing their speeches for the reception. Our eldest read a poem about the importance of love and our youngest read a quote taken from her favourite character and tedding, “Pooh Bear”. I think there was one thing that people felt that day – that it was about our family, and love!”

Real Wedding: Emma & Josh in Maroochydore

Emma looked like a dream on her wedding day when she became the wife of handsome Josh. The pair chose a waterfront location in Maroochydore to say their vows before family and friends in a super fun ceremony, officiated by Sunshine Coast celebrant, Lynette Maguire.

Their memories were captured in an outrageously beautiful fashion by none other than one of our all-time faves, Matt Rowe Photography. The couple say the most fun part of the day was their bridal party photo shoot, mucking around and coming up with creative group shots!

“There are so many great memories from our wedding day but I think the most stand out one for me would be mucking around after the ceremony with Josh and the bridal party getting our photos taken doing stupid poses and just having a laugh.”

“The whole lead up to the wedding it did not feel real, as soon as I put my wedding dress on I got butterflies in my stomach and it really hit me that I was getting married today.”

“The pendants on the bouquet symbolise my grandmothers, two of which we have lost, and I had my dad tie a silver sixpence to my shoe for good luck. The ribbons at the ceremony were a Celtic hand fastening where friends and family ask us questions which Josh and I would then have to promise to – something to get the quests involved in the ceremony.”

“Josh and I really wanted a fun and relaxing day, more of a party feel then a formal wedding ceremony and reception.”

“The funniest time for me would have been the exchanging of our own vows which we had no idea what the other was going to say.”

“I felt so excited and nervous at the same time when I first saw Josh. FINALLY after 12 years I was marrying my best friend.”

1950’s Vintage-style Sunshine Beach Wedding

Good day to you, lovely Sunshine Coast brides! It delights me to kick off this beautiful Monday morning with an absolutely gorgeous Sunshine Beach wedding. Hands-down, the star of this wedding is, as it should be, the bride, Kelly. She absolutely shines with her 1950’s-inspired hair and makeup with a contemporary twist.

The other shining brilliance is the photography, so wonderfully captured by one of our all-time favourite Sunshine Coast wedding photographers, Andrea Sproxton Photography. These are some of the most gorgeous photos we have ever featured on The Bride’s Tree; we are extremely excited to share them with you!

After Kelly and Jordan’s ceremony at Lake Weyba Cottages, their 65 guests joined them at Coconut Grove Bar & Bistro for a sit-down reception dinner of delicious fine food. The bride and groom placed highest importance on the photography and reception venue, saving money elsewhere by doing lots of DIY. The clever bride played florist for the day, constructing the beautifully coloured bouquets.

The couple’s friends and family came from Sydney, Melbourne, and Townsville to celebrate this wonderful union of two long-time locals, who met as primary school children. Their attendants were their close friends and the groom’s brother, who were treated to gifts from the couple – the groomsmen receiving beautiful Parker pens, and the bridesmaids receiving matching silk dressing gowns. Having family and friends close for their special day was of utmost importance and joy to the couple.

Real Wedding: Penny & Duane on Maroochy River

It was a destination wedding for Penny from Adelaide and Duane from Griffith. Friends and family flew in from their home towns, plus Sydney, Melbourne, New Zealand, and Florida, USA. The lovely couple had prioritised finding a waterfront location with beautiful views and great views, which they found in Ebb Waterfront Restaurant & Bar.

Penny went into full organise mode when planning her wedding, gaining inspiration from inspiration online blogs, like The Bride’s Tree! She also wanted to put all her trust and faith in the consumate professionals we have here on the Sunshine Coast. For example, one Karen Buckle Photography, who is the lady responsible for the crazy beautiful images you are about to see. Hang onto your floral headpieces, ladies, you are in for a treat.

“All our family and friends were very supportive but we did much of the planning ourselves or by email and phone. I Googled suppliers and followed their blogs and read their Facebook pages. In the end I went with the suppliers that seemed like they would understand my vision, I didn’t worry about getting three quotes and checking twice. It was about choosing the people I really wanted to work with.”

Simple Maroochy Waterfront Wedding

Brisbane couple, Anthony and Tracey, met at a festival in their home city. Five loving years later, they were engaged and in 12 months they planned their own wedding with finesse. A Sunshine Coast wedding with style by the water was the order of the day.

Keeping things elegant and simple was their plan from the outset. They achieved this by having a guest list on the shorter side, with just 66 close friends and family members attending. This allowed the newlyweds to spend more time with each guest on the day. Simplicity was also achieved by having their ceremony and reception in one place – Ebb Waterfront Restaurant. No travel, no fuss. And what’s more, their wedding night accommodation was just upstairs at the Duporth Riverside Apartments, which boast amazing views of the Maroochy River.
