Amanda and Trev were highschool sweethearts, who fell truly, madly, deeply and hopelessly in love over exchange of sweet childish love letters. Those same love letters are the ones Trev bundled together in a vintage jewellery box for Amanda to open on her wedding day morning. How she turned up to her wedding ceremony without puffy eyes, we will never know!

This beautiful couple had a long engagement of four years before they finally tied the knot at gorgeous Sunshine Coast hinterland wedding venue, Flaxton Gardens. It was a perfect day, with their ceremony overlooking the gorgeous hinterland, which they say was their favourite part of the day. Kristy Ellis of Weddings with Kristy was their wedding celebrant, who engaged their guests and helped them to have the emotional, yet fun ceremony they had always wanted. 

We absolutely adore the colour scheme Amanda chose – the fresh white with hints of blue and coral are simply stunning and perfect for a Sunshine Coast wedding. We particularly love the florals by Ginger Lily & Rose Floral Studio with its nod to the colour theme in such a creative and intricate fashion. Love, love, love!

Rebecca and Ryan met when Ryan moved in next door and popped his head in to say a neighbourly hello. And the rest is history, as they say! The pair decided to share more than a postcode. They formed a life, made a beautiful child, and grew a partnership along the way that lead them to their Sunshine Coast hinterland wedding day.

This fun couple decided to throw all the rules out the window, and simply infuse things they like into their wedding day. They enlisted the help of family and friends to help them collect material, doilies, jars, handkerchiefs and more to DIY their way to a wedding day that was truly “them.” From Rebecca’s vintage-style, strapless brocade gold, platinum and light blue dress in a floral pattern to the charity donation for a bomboniere, this quirky country wedding was perfectly left of centre. We love Rebecca’s unique vintage-inspired look, complete with beautiful makeup by KJ Artistry.

The Maleny wedding ceremony was held at Halfmoon Hideaway B&B on an outdoor deck under an absolutely incredible sprawling tree, and they followed with a catered Montville wedding reception at Montville Village Hall. The best part is, they were able to share the day with their gorgeous one-year-old  little girl, Kiani.

Matt Rowe Photography took the couple on quite the adventure about the Sunshine Coast hinterland, finding some incredible spots for their bridal party photos, including an old milking shed! DIY: Almost everything was DIY! Rebecca made a message envelope board out of old Frankie magazines and an old timber window frame for the guests to leave advice for the happy couple. She also sewed table runners out of different materials, lots of bunting out of her old clothes, and adorned all the candle jars with different types of lace.

“On the day it was unbelievable, we had SO MUCH wonderful help in setting up the hall and making it look fantastic! It took quite a while and everyone chipped in. It was definitely a very ‘community’ wedding.”

“Our family and friends collected a lot of things. My best friend’s mum collected over 50 handkerchiefs, friends and family collected mason jars, vases, lace table cloths, lots of doilies, food dishes, props for our photobooth, etcetera. I had such a great time making things though and we did it over the 10 month period so it wasn’t too rushed or hectic, and truly ‘us’.”

Biggest splurge: Having cinematographers, not because it was over-priced; we were so lucky to be offered an amazing low-cost deal,  because it was an ‘extra’ for us, a luxury that was worth every cent!

Best bargain: The flowers! I would never have imagined that we could afford to have fresh arrangements decorating the ceremony, pre-reception and reception, on top of bouquets and button holes, but with our friend Helen sourcing the flowers from the markets and putting them all together for us, we got it all for $300.  She was on the same page as me from the beginning and she did the most amazing job.

Jewellery/rings: Our rings were also pretty special and unique, we had them made for by Eckart Schillings from Rings for Brides  Mine is a loop of tiny gold leaves and Jesses is brushed stainless with a single gold leaf embedded into the steel.

DIY: The barn at the homestead is completely bare to begin with, so the majority of the set up was DIY. Jesse made the timber bar himself. We made the invitations, the vases out of coffee jars, hanging tealights out of wire and little glass jars, flower balls out of book pages and lots of other decorative pieces.  We also put together the gourmet picnic baskets ourselves.

“We worked with the natural charm of the homestead, so there were many ‘rustic’ and ‘old world’ elements to the styling.”

“Stay true to what is right for you and your husband-to-be and don’t lose sight of the things that matter most.  No one will notice the colour of the napkins, but they will notice the smile on your face and the glint in his eye.“

“We put ourselves into every detail, from the wording of our ceremony to the decor layout of our reception.”

“Most of the planning revolved around creating an atmosphere that was warm and relaxed as well as cheerful and festive.”

“The band was getting ready to do our first dance song, when Jesse scooted up to the mic and said ‘well actually, Alex isn’t that great of an MC because he forgot about my speech’.”

“We were so lucky to be able to have our fave local band ‘Mitch Davis and the Dawn Chorus’ play throughout our reception. We first saw them play at Utribe festival in 2009 and have gone to see them numerous times since, so it was pretty special that we got to share our taste in music with our guests.“

“For me, the best thing about our wedding day was encapsulated in a single moment.  It was during our first dance, the live band playing a cover of ‘Bob Marley- This is love’, when nearly all of our guests joined us in a slow dance.  We had just enjoyed some wonderful speeches, our bellies were full of good food, the tealights were glowing and there was just so much love and happiness in that little barn. And we were married.”

Our winner, Suzie, was beyond thrilled when she received the news she had won, and gathered her gals for the best day ever! Despite one of her girlfriends unexpectedly being unable to make it, the remaining three had the time of their lives, and Shawn from Sabra Creative was there to capture every moment of their amazing time.

Flaxton Grove is a luxury mansion, run by wedding venue Flaxton Gardens. It is indescribable, (but I’ll try…), super luxurious, impeccably decorated in style and everything you could wish for in your mansion for the weekend. It sleeps up to 16, so the girls had plenty of room to move!

Kicking off the day with a spot of pampering, the girls were treated to hair styling by Dot & Birdie… 

… and airbrush makeup by Powder Me Makeup Studio, making them look and feel fabulous!

More pampering ensued with pedicures all round, as they enjoyed their high tea from Allure Hair and Beauty

Allure Hair and Beauty know how to put on a pampering high tea like nobody’s business. They bring all the pretty styling in lace and floral tablecloths, flowers, crystal wear and china, they cater with the scrummiest of tasty treats, and even hand out really amazing gift bags with even more pamper items!

To really look the part in their luxurious Flaxton Grove surrounds, the girls donned their Lucy and Loo dresses, each in their own chosen colour with embellishments and tied to their own preferences to suit their body types

Directly across from Flaxton Grove is a lookout with the most beautiful view of the hinterland and coast, all the way to the ocean. Amazing!

Dan and Melika travelled all the way from London to have their wedding day in Queensland, Australia… in the rain! Who would believe it! However, they never let it dampen their day for a moment, even saying the rain added a certain touch of magic to their special day. 

Wanting to give their international guests a unique wedding to remember, they chose cattle station wedding venue, Yandina Station to hold their beautiful wedding for 101 guests. Yandina Station is beautifully maintained with luxury cottage accommodation, but also has a rad rustic old barn to hold wedding receptions in. This really gave their UK guests an Australian feel to the day, which was really special to Dan and Melika. 

You may actually recognise this good-looking couple, as we published their cute hinterland engagement shoot with Sunshine Coast wedding photographer, Matt Rowe Photography, who is also responsible for the beautiful images below. 

“Finding the perfect reception venue was important to us as we had so many international guests attending and we wanted it to be special; something we’d never forget. So we aimed for a unique venue, as we wanted to stand out as being different as a couple.”

“We met in London, my flat mate liked him so we naturally became friends as we saw each other every few weeks. I left England and we stayed in touch but I never knew he liked me until almost a year after meeting! It tookthree and a half years from meeting, to marriagefor us to finally realise that we couldn’t live without each other.”

“We both live in the UK so my family and friends played a huge part in getting the basics and some of the majors done, posting invitations, collecting old jars, making decorations, visiting the venue for us!”

“Being friends for two years, we were able to get to know each other without the complications of a relationship, especially since majority of the time we lived so far apart. Now we just love each other’s company and are always having fun together. Our love for travel is also a huge asset and helps when having family spread between two continents.”

“The rain added a certain magical touch to our wedding day. I didn’t have my wellies for our photos on location but thankfully my sister had a spare pair of flats! The wellies did come in handy for trips to the bathroom though and I even entered the reception as the new Mrs Cornelius wearing them“

Bridal gown: Ian Stuart Bridal – London ‘Sancerre’ £1400 purchased from Amante Bridal 

Accessories: Single tier raw edge veil by Ivie White , Art Deco pearl earrings and bracelet by Katherine Swaine £100  ; Vintage art deco hair comb purchased from  Amante Bridal (gift £85 – also a one off design).

Shoes: Jimmy Choo – Ebay! £47

Bridesmaid dresses: Pink/apricot dresses by Warehouse – London. We bought them on sale so they worked out to be roughly £70 each

Bridesmaids’ accessories: Tulle and diamonte flower hair clip from Lovisa, $12 each. and Thomas Sabo freshwater pearl bracelets £30 each 

Groom’s suit and shoes: Navy 3-piece Travel Suit £750 & tan Brogues shoes £120, both Paul Smith

Groomsmens’ suits and shoes: Petrol Blue French Connection Suits £175 each and the boys wore their own belts & shoes. 

Bombonieres: We collected English tea cups for each female guest so these were purchased from charity stores across West Sussex, England

DIY: Decorated jars, table floral arrangements, chalk boards, wooden signage, popcorn snack bags, paper pom pom decorations, seating plan, bombonieres, thank you cards

“Our reception venue was an old barn, so we wanted a Shabby Chic, vintage theme, with a touch of romance. It also ended up being quite Australian in a classy way, something our international guests and local ones too, absolutely loved.”

“We handmade the seating plan which combined of the thank you note and table name. We decided that thanking everyone in advance saved us a job once we were back in the UK. We strung three strands of brown string and pegged each name card in alphabetical order. Once guests opened their name card, the inside flap told them where they were sitting and finally once completely opened was our handwritten thank you note. Once guests arrived at the table – if they were a boy they found their name on a luggage tag tied to their napkin and if they were a girl they found their name tag attached to a gorgeous vintage English teacup with a posy of flowers inside. I strategically sat all girls in the centre of the tables with the boys on each table end to ensure their flowers only enhanced the centre peices, making the flowers and favours the focal point of the table layout.”

“My Husband’s aunt made 400 macarons for us and my mum bought a simple cake for us to cut. The macarons were a nice alternative and something everyone thought were luxurious and delicious! “

“We saved loads having family use their own skills! Between my family (my aunties, sister, mum and close friends) we used all kinds of decorations from vintage suitcases, candles, art work, mirrors, wooden boxes, old cameras, chandeliers to decorate and it looked amazing.“
