Before you start extracting precious childhood memories from your mind in an effort to make more room for the little things you need to organise and remember, (No? Just me who does that?), start designating.

There are a few important things you simply will not be able to do yourself on your Sunshine Coast wedding day, so it’s time to hand over the reigns on this one and let someone else take stock of what you need done. Here are a few jobs you may not have made arrangements for. Your job this week is to choose the people to take care of these and make sure you inform them with clear instructions. Pro tip: Don’t designate all of this to just one person. We don’t need to burn anyone out!

Feed You

Your wedding day morning will be so busy, it’s easy to forget to eat. With champagne flowing and nerves creeping in, you definitely don’t want to head off down the aisle on an empty stomach.

Choose something you know always goes down well, and ask someone who will be with you on the wedding day morning to be in charge of ordering or preparing the meal. Make sure they realise this task includes physically putting a plate of food in your hand to make sure you eat something!

Carry Your Touch-up Supplies

You’re going to be flat out carrying your bouquet and holding your husband’s or wife’s hand, you
won’t have a spare hand for a clutch. Ask a trusted friend to carry all your supplies for you. These
include, but are not limited to touch up lipstick and powder, tissues, paracetamol/similar, bandaids/
plasters, and even a small emergency sewing kit.

It’s a good idea to choose someone who will be able to be close to you throughout the day and
night. Your trusted bridesmaid or maid of honour is ideal. Your mother might be a good alternative,
however bear in mind that she might be difficult to pin down, as family and friends will be just as
keen to congratulate her on her beautiful daughter’s marriage.

Bring Your Overnight Bag

Following your reception, you and your new wifey or hubby will want to sneak off to your own private paradise, even if it’s just for the night before your honeymoon. You will need to have somebody either bring along your overnight bag and stash it somewhere safe till it’s time to go, or deliver it to your wedding night accommodation prior to the day’s celebration.

This goes for your new spouse’s bag, too, so be sure to have his gear organised, as well. In fact – this is a task he could be in charge of delegating to one of his/her bridal party members.

Look After the Loot

Whether it be a table full of presents or your wishing well, you will need to have somebody  take care of all of your gifts. Nominate someone to take these to their car to take home for you, and not too late in the night. It’s best to pick a time that’s after the official stuff, but before the party really gets going to get the goods out of the way.

Set Up Your Decorations

Let me preface this one by saying, it is my strong advice to leave this one to a professional, like your venue coordinator or hired stylist. However, of course sometimes budget doesn’t allow and DIY it is. The “yourself” in DIY in this instance, should be translated to mean “someone other than you.” I cannot stress this enough: nominate somebody to do it for you, don’t be doing it yourself on your wedding day!

It’s important that you pick someone who can follow your directions to the letter, and be sure you go over the set up with them just how you want it several times. You don’t want to walk into your own wedding reception and feel like running about to each table setting and switching things around! You may even wish to supply them with a photo of how and where you want each item to be placed, so there’s no confusion.

A word to the wise – don’t pick somebody who is in your bridal party. They will need to be with you for emotional support, and to have their pampering done as well. You don’t want your busy hair and makeup artists to be waiting around for your bridesmaid to return, or miss them out altogether because they are still at the venue putting out place cards.

Pick Up Your Cake and Flowers

Again, don’t choose a person already in your bridal party to do this. This is a great job for brothers, fathers, uncles and cousins, who would revel at the chance to make themselves useful.

Be sure they know whose name the order was placed under, and give them a detailed list of what is to be collected so they can check it off as they go. Supply this trusted person with a phone number of the supplier as well, so if anything goes amiss, they can contact them first to see if they can sort it out themselves before calling you directly to stress you out.

Beautiful bride, Taryn, married her long-time love, Ben, in a sweet vintage-inspired wedding with loads of little details we just love. This is one of the prettiest DIY weddings we have ever seen, so we simply had to share with you how clever she is!

Taryn and Ben had been together eight years when they got engaged, so they didn’t see the sense in waiting too much longer to call each other husband and wife. And so they gave themselves only six months to plan and execute their dream wedding. A love of craft and styling, and also time and budget constraints, lead to Taryn going full DIY for her wedding styling. She came up with her entire concept for both her marquee ceremony decorations and her reception tablescapes. 

Rustic, vintage, and a bringing-the-outdoors-in feel were all brought together for the fresh and details-heavy concept Taryn came up with. The result is a really pretty and stylish wedding that really wowed her guests.

“I found a tutorial on You Tube that showed me how to construct tissue paper flowers, and a friend gave me the heart garland. She is a school teacher, and had her students cut out all of the gold cardboard hearts for her own wedding!”

“I bought the card tags from Ebay, and made vellum-look stickers from Officeworks that I printed on from my computer at home.”

“I found the cutest silver tea set and cake stand from St. Vincent de Paul op shop. It took a littloe bit of work to polish up, but it was so worth it. All of them together cost only $30! I rented the typewriter from Fresh Honey Weddings“

“I wanted to include some old family wedding photos from both sides of the family, because none of our grandparents could be there on the day. Some had passed away, and some were just not physically able to be there for one reason or another.”

“My maid of honour’s mother lent me the beauty case she received for her 21st birthday 45 years ago.”

“Bride and Groom heart-shaped chalk board signs were hired from Fresh Honey Weddings.”

“I enlisted everyone to keep hold of their jam and coffee jars in the months leading up to my wedding and ended up with a huge collection. I removed the labels and wrapped them in hessian and lace. The flowers were purchased the day before the wedding at the local markets. My friend’s mother overlocked the edges of the hessian table runners, which I purchased from Spotlight. LOVE bunting was also hired from Fresh Honey Weddings. Our wedding faviours for our guests were a variety of olive oils that I made myself. Some had balsamic and thyme, others had rosemary, chilli and garlic.”

“My mum has a beautiful collection of vintage tea cups. My favourites are the Royal Dalton pieces, which I placed on each table with more tissue paper flowers in them. So pretty!”

If you’re anything like me, you buy all these fancy decorations and then don’t really know exactly what to do with them placement-wise to make them look as spectacular as you would like. This idea from the clever folk at Oh Happy Day! is brilliant! I love how putting all of these honeycomb decorations bunched up together in one impressive garland creates a fabulous statement. 

It frames the food table perfectly, and would also work for a sweets table adornment, behind the bridal party table, or as a photo booth backdrop. You could select colours that tie in with your wedding theme, or even use varying shades of white for a very bridal look indeed.

There is one part of your wedding that does not need to be fancy-pants. No matter whether you’re having a farm picnic wedding with cowgirl boots and hay bales and a pig on the spit, or a formal sit down dinner in a fine dining restaurant, your Just Married sign is destined for simplicity.

Of course that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with it and make it super cute! We love this DIY that brings a bit of old school charm and a time honoured tradition back to life. Everybody loves a Just Married garland with stringed cans hanging from the back of a car, but these days it’s frowned upon to hang things from your car. Oh, those party pooper law makers, eh!

The Mason Jar has had its day in the sun. Now it’s time for a more modest jar. A jar we all know, but seldom pay homage to. A jar that may appear too small in stature to warrant much attention at all. A jar with very few reuse prospects.

Usually fated to be a mere button or paperclip holder, this jar has far too long been underestimated and overlooked, yet its prominent presence in many a home across the nation – nay, across the world – is evident. It has brought inside it much-needed supply of emergency food in the event of either occasional (or in my case, slightly more frequent) laziness or lack of talent for creating own delicacies of this nature. And frankly, it deserves a little more respect, and the opportunity to dream big and follow its ambitions. 

I am talking, of course, about the baby food jar. Can I get a hallelujah from the ones with the small humans, please! Often my saviour in years gone by, so boy do I know how fast they pile up in the recycling bin. Anyone else either have or recall lines of these cute little guys on your counter top, just screaming out for a use, only to be cast aside come bin day?

On your Sunshine Coast wedding day morning, wouldn’t it be lovely to surprise your beloved with a love note? Of course, a beautifully hand-written letter or poem would be beautiful. However, if all your best material is tied up in your personalised vows, or you just want to make a bit more of a statement, why not keep it short and simple… and big? 

Street art, or driveway art, even wall art can be achieved quite simply, inexpensively and perfectly temporarily and most importantly – legally. For the images you see below are not featuring spray paint, but spray chalk! So your surprise love note can make a big splash with your groom, and wash off with a splash of water.
