You would hardly know it from their pretty hinterland wedding at Maleny Manor, but Melanie and Sam first connected when they met at a heavy metal concert in Brisbane’s West End. Their mutual love of heavy metal music remains as strong as their love. While they would have been happy celebrating their night away to all their favourite metal tunes for their Maleny Manor wedding reception, they chose a little more inclusive, allowing some pop and old school RnB in the mix.

The happy couple chose the lovely Lee from Life and Love Photography to help them with their memory-makin’ for their big day.    “All of my bridesmaids, sister and Mum, and Mother-in-law, came dress shopping with me to numerous shops to help me choose my dress. Their input was so helpful.”    “From the moment I saw Sam when I walked down the aisle, I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face, all of my nerves disappeared and all the stress leading up the wedding melted away.”“My sister read out a beautiful poem during the ceremony and we had some lovely heartfelt speeches from close friends and family. As part of our ceremony, our celebrant included a rose ceremony in which we honoured both of our mothers and Sam’s grandmother by presenting them with a single white rose, it was really special.”“We momentarily lost the wedding bands an hour before the ceremony but my mother-in-law saved the day and found them among one of the many bags we carted up to Maleny from Brisbane.”“We met at a heavy metal show at the HiFi in (Brisbane’s) West End. We had a very strong connection from the very beginning, both of us were amazed we had found someone with the same taste in music.”

“I wanted the scenery and setting to be beautiful, somewhere green in the mountains or country. Maleny Manor is absolutely breathtaking, the scenery is so amazing – it was perfect.”

“We balance each other out. I tend to be a bit of stress head and perfectionist, and Sam is easy going and chilled out, he always manages to calm me down. Teyha and Shaun’s day was all about them, but with the comfort and enjoyment of their guests as topmost priority. The first decision they made to accommodate their 65 guests was to choose Maleny Manor as their venue, knowing this would mean no travelling between ceremony and reception locations, as the Manor has a perfectly positioned pavillion with stunning hinterland views, especially for the wedding ceremony. You gotta love that. 

We quite love the special ways the happy couple made the day their own. One such personal touch was to have a “first look” or “reveal” photo shoot prior to the wedding ceremony, allowing them a cheeky moment to themselves before becoming husband and wife. Another was including their children in the ceremony; an absolute must for Teyha and Shaun, so the two boys walked their mum down the aisle. Awww!

Terri Hanlon Photography was there to capture each and every wonderful moment in her own uniquely sweet style.

“I was working in a bar while at uni and Shaun would come in for knock off drinks with his brother. I hadn’t met Shaun but he had noticed me. I got a phone call one day from my duty manager who said there was a cute guy who wanted to take me on a date. I got his number, called him a few weeks later and went on a one-way blind date. We never looked back.”

“My advice to other brides is to have your last dress fitting days before the wedding to factor in any last minute changes in weight. And, don’t be afraid to wear flats!”

“We had a ‘reveal’ shoot before the ceremony to factor in winter’s early sundown. It was such a special moment when our photographer placed us side-by-side, eyes closed holding hands on top of a mountain. We then opened our eyes to see each other in the most breath taking moment. It was special to have that moment all to ourselves.”

“Shaun and I were conscious that the day was going to ‘fly by’ so we made a deliberate effort to savour every moment. The reveal photo shoot was a great opportunity to spend some one-on-one time together before the wedding, we had a few laughs and many sweet sentiments were shared.”

“It was raining, foggy and cold on the drive up to Maleny the morning of the wedding. Just after lunch, the sun came through and it turned into stunning winters day.”

“I did most of the planning in the few months leading up to the wedding. I wanted the wedding to have a vintage edge, with soft peaches and cream tones to compliment the beautiful winters day.”

“My sons walked me down the aisle, carried the rings and read some song lyrics during the ceremony.”

“We asked our Pastor to read a special family prayer to bring us together as a family. It was important for us to include our little men.”

“The boys were gifted spotty peach socks and hand-made ties. The ladies got jewellery, handmade from Etsy. The little flower girl (my niece) received a handkerchief with an embroidered poem designed for her to carry on her very own wedding day, also from Etsy.”

“We have worked each other out. He knows I’m super sensitive and I know he is the complete opposite, so we meet on a medium. It really works for us.”

“We wanted our guests to all be comfortable and not having to move from venue to reception. Luckily for us, the Manor is incredibly attentive and took care of many ‘to-do’ items.”

“The Manor has an amazing menu, we had canapés followed by a three course menu. We opted to have a buffet dessert so our guests could be free from their seats and able to mingle and dance.”

Amanda sent Nate a kiss online and one year later they had their first kiss as husband and wife. When love strikes, there’s no holding back. And by their own account, they were made for each other. 

60 of their family and friends joined them at Maleny Manor for their dream wedding, which they planned together  from top to bottom, relishing in every last detail, and getting their DIY on with projects, which included melting wax, manipulating chicken wire and sanding their little hearts out. 

Their special day came together gloriously, and Karen Buckle was there to capture each and every last beautiful moment and all the pretty little details, like the amazing flowers by Mondo Floral Designs. 

“The two most important things to us at the very start was making sure we had the perfect venue and photographer – which we most definitely ended up with!  With those sorted we started working through all the elements of the day, making sure that every element got just as much priority as the next.”

“Nate and I did most of the planning ourselves; we found it easier as it was us who needed to make decisions and it was easier to keep everything in line with our vision.”

“We had some photos on location at the Manor, followed by a sunset session on Mountain View Rd in a cow patty laden paddock (gumboots were a great choice!). But it was so worth it – the view with the Glasshouse Mountains in the background is priceless.”

“I really believe we were made for each other! We make such a great team – we are stronger together than apart. Everything just works out for us, just as it’s meant to be.”

We removed the glass, gave it a distressed look by sanding it back, secured chicken wire to the back, and used little pegs to hang table plans in each pane. I loved doing our DIY projects!

Four years after they first met through a mutual friend, Judith and Kevin married in a stunning ceremony overlooking the Sunshine Coast hinterland at the iconic award-winning Maleny Manor.

Creative Judith tapped into her childhood and youth, and chose a theme that resonated with her, having marked so many moments in her life. Alice in Wonderland was the source of childhood joy via the Disney movie and teenage fascination as Judith read and re-read the book over and over, being inspired to create artworks based on the well-known characters and the world in which they lived.

And so their reception was a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party! So as you take a peek at the beautiful images by Renee Brazel Photography and amazing styling by Moments in Vintage – Furniture & Decor Hire, I will leave you with my personal favourite quote of all time.

“Of all the silly nonsense, this is the stupidest tea party I’ve ever been to in all my life!” – Alice, Alice in Wonderland, Disney animation. 

“My brother sang ‘Without You’ (by Eddie Vedder) as I walked down the aisle.”

“It’s all a blur to me now but I spent a lot of money on my dress – priority number one! Then hair, makeup and a good photographer; I wanted us to look good.”

“Take off your heels for the reception and wear flat shoes. Best decision ever.”

“the fact that it was a small wedding meant that I felt more relaxed around my friends. I still struggled to talk to everyone. I was especially glad to spend time with my siblings (particularly my brother who lives in Japan).”

“I love old-fashioned things. I ended up tying that up with an Alice in Wonderland theme. Which suits me because in high school I read the book over and over again, watched the Disney movie when I was a kid and did many drawings and paintings that had connections to Alice in Wonderland. Mostly I just wanted everyone to enjoy the day so we had giant Jenga and croquet and a photobooth with props.

“We had a lot of help. We got our friends to drive us on the day and some other friends to do the ‘order of service’. My work friend did this amazing floral display for me and my closest friend made the wedding cakes”

In a beautiful Maleny Manor wedding ceremony and reception, Chelsea and Troy became husband and wife. Their classic styling with a hint of vintage was a hit with their 65 guests. Music lovers to the core, they had live music at their ceremony and Chelsea arranged the best surprise ever for new husband, Troy, by bringing in his favourite band to play their bridal waltz.

When Chelsea Met Troy

I used to work in a CD shop. Troy came into the shop and bought a David Gilmour CD. To make conversation I told him how much I liked the CD (even though at the time I wasn’t that fussed on it.) It was really just an opportunity to flirt with him. He purchased the CD and left, only to return a little bit later to offer me his phone number. 

We both understand the importance of keeping our individuality. As much as we are an awesome package we give each other the space and time to do and enjoy the things that make each of us unique.

Theme and Fashion

I’ve always enjoyed vintage styling, so I knew that I wanted to have a vintage-styled dress. Although I didn’t want a ‘themed’ wedding, with the style of the bridesmaids dresses and hair there definitely was a ‘vintage Hollywood glamour’ feel.

Once I chose my dress, I started to get more of an idea of what the ‘feel / theme’ of the day would be.The music/entertainment was a really important choice for us too. We (and most of our friends) are huge music fans and we really just wanted it to feel like a party for everyone.

All of our vendors were amazing to work with. They all provided incredible services / product and support not only before my wedding but afterwards as well. I would highly recommend any of them!

Hand Fastening

We felt it was really important to involve our family and closest friends in our actual ceremony. We chose to do this by having a hand fastening. After Troy and I had given each other our vows our Bridal party and our families came up and offered us their blessings and added to our binding ribbon.

The Wedding of Our Dreams

I got to marry the man of my dreams with my best friends and family right there by my side. Plus our puppy, Chevy was our ring bearer. Throughout the whole ceremony and garden party we picked songs and albums that carried meaning to us through our relationship.The venue offered such a spectacular backdrop for our photos that we didn’t have to leave the property.

The Big Surprise!

The opportunity came up to get one of Troy’s favourite bands to play as a surprise for him at the Reception. I had to arrange with the groomsmen to get him out of the room for close to half an hour as the band set up. Troy was blindfolded and bought into the room as our bridal waltz was announced. As I took his blindfold off, he was confronted with REGURGITATOR playing for our Waltz. His face in the photos, says it all!

The Honeymoon

We hired a camper van a took 5 days to drive down the east coast to Melbourne. Then we stayed in Melbourne for 6 nights before heading to the Snow at Mt Buller for three nights. Then we flew home.

Best bargain: The bridesmaid dresses were only $40 from Ebay!

Accessories: I wore an antique brooch that all the women in my family have worn on their wedding day. (Love knot with seed pearls and opals).

My earrings were Edwardian era purchased off ebay from UK. (18ct gold drop with pearls) And I wore and antique ring that Troy’s late mother gave to me. It belonged to her grandmother.

Shoes: Famous Footwear

Bridesmaid dresses: 8ball Rampage Ebay store

Bridesmaids’ accessories: Fresh water pearl necklaces with matching earrings from Myer. They also wore Faux Fur stoles from Just Add Bling boutique in Burpengary.
