For their Beerwah barn wedding, Leah and Joey took a very modest budget of $10,000 (and it only blew out ever so slightly..!) and created a gorgeous, dream day with a little help from their family and friends. Tons of DIY, and catering by family played a huge role in keeping costs low. 

The couple managed to make their wedding day fun and personalised by both opting for cute comfort with street sneakers, and the girls carrying bouquets of sunflowers. Very fitting for a couple of longtime Sunshine Coast locals.

Our Meet Cute

We meet at my work when I was a chef and he was a regular customer in 2016. 4 years later we ended up working together as baristas at Third Place. He’s my best friend and I couldn’t see myself with anyone else.

The Proposal

I was planning my husbands surprise birthday party with a friend and part of that surprise was taking him to our special lookout. I was on the way to picking up our 2 friends and my husband, when I get a call from him telling me that he’ll just meet us up at the lookout.

As I’m driving into the turn off to the lookout, I see my husband standing at the top of the hill with fairy lights everywhere. He comes down to take me up to the lookout, and as we get to the top all i see is photos of us hanging with fairy lights and a photo frame on a stand. Inside the photo frame written is , ‘Will you put up with me forever’, I turn around and that’s when he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He hijacked my surprise birthday party for a surprise proposal.

The Location

We’re both from the Sunshine Coast and love the area. The location that we had our wedding was in Beerwah on a farm. We had the reception in a barn and the ceremony in the fields. Our photos were taken just down the road with the mountains in the background.

Our photographer Mallory Sparkles; she was just phenomenal and went way and beyond what we asked of her. Our music done by Dave West Music was outstanding, and couldn’t have had better music played in both ceremony and reception. Classy Loos was amazing as the bathrooms were very classy and suitable for all people.

Sam and Hannah are now married, but before they tied the knot they got together with their wedding photographer, Mallory Sparkles, to commemorate their pre-wedding selves. It was the perfect snapshot in time to, well take some snaps of this special time in their relationship. 

The relaxed couple took to Mudjimba Beach where Mallory made sure the images captured Sam and Hannah just as they are. 

Hannah said of Sam, “Both of us grew up in small beach towns on opposite sides of the world. This is what sparked both of our love for all things beach, nature, travel, and adventure.

“Being raised 8000 miles away from each other, seemingly we were two individuals never meant to meet. Against all odds, we found each other; soulmates. Together, we enjoy exploring, are major foodies, and have a laid back lifestyle.”

It all started with a simple idea by one creative wedding talent, Kendra Groves of Wild Child Cakes & Catering. 

“Modern Harvest was inspired by my favourite time of the year, Autumn.. Here in Australia the leaves aren’t as golden and the nights not as cool, but we find the beauty in what we are given and that’s what inspired me.” Kendra said. 

Kendra chose one of our favourite places to shoot this Modern Harvest wedding inspiration, the very beautiful untouched Emu Mountain in Perigean. “Long grass caught in the golden hour and dirt tracks leading to nowhere, to me this place encompasses the perfect elopement. A place to get lost and fall in love.” She said.

Autumn Flowers

Flowers by the ever incredible Bloodwood Botanica, somehow managing to encompass quintessential Autumnal beauty in a muted blush pallete.

Stationery + Cake 

Kendra explained her creative process involved taking inspiration from Studio B Couture’s stationery that ultimately spoke to the Autumnal deep toned theme, “When I saw the stationery with its beautiful texture, which played a subtle balance between light and dark, I wanted to encompass this within my cake. Where the cake showed all that was beautiful in a Winters night sky, the florals surrounding showed that Autumn is all about balance, about life and death, night and day, and about the beauty of light and the dark within the season.”

Photography

Incandescent photography was captured by Mallory Sparkles, whose approach to photography involves such care and attention to detail with light analysis above and beyond. 

Beauty + Fashion

Sunshine Brides – Valentina Pintus brought in the modern edge with a striking blood red lip, and smokey eye with some serious lashes. Fox and the Dandelion designed an intricately braided style that would highlight the stunning crown from Crowns + Wreaths with variations with loose curls cascading down the low back dress design.

Redcliffe couple Courtney and Martin grew up living in their family homes only two minutes apart. However it was a chance meeting in the city that brought them together. Four years later they were engaged and spend 15 months planning their destination wedding in Noosa. 

They planned their wedding for a Friday, so all their 100 guests could join them to enjoy a long weekend of celebrating in the beachside location. 

Location + Style

It was all about the location and spending as much quality time as possible with their 100 guests. Most travelled to be part of their Noosa Waterfront wedding. Their wedding theme had coastal and Hamptons vibes with coconuts and macrame elements. Pretty Little Lane stamped their unique decorative style on the ceremony and reception at Noosa Waterfront Restaurant + Bar. To complement the decor and natural surroundings, the stylists used plenty of greenery and various natural textiles.

Flowers

Courtney’s bouquet was a posy with a relaxed undone feel featuring my absolute favourite – stunning white fluffy peonies! To die for! Magnolia Grove constructed an asymmetrical arrangement for the ceremony utilising dense greenery ranging from delicate fern leaves to large deep leaves. The ceremony arrangement and styling together created a distinctly tropical feel. 

Dress

The bride was stunning in a white Mori Lee & MGNY design from Brisbane bridal boutique, White Lily Couture. ‘Greta’ is a sparkly tulle ballgown finished with cascading crystal beads. The V-neck bodice is complete with sheer straps which continue onto the the low back. The beaded belt is a pretty touch, which highlighted the bride’s waist.

Mallory Sparkles Photography took some particularly stunning images of the couple and their bridal party on Noosa beach. And of course was there to capture every special moment of their Noosa Waterfront wedding from morning till night.  “I gave my bridal party Samantha wills rings, and a few other goodies. My husband got me a purse as a wedding gift, and I got him personalised cufflinks.”

“We chose to have our wedding ceremony and reception in the same place as we wanted our guests to relax and not have to go from venue to venue.”  “We had a candle lighting ceremony to remember our loved ones who have passed. We also got our immediate family to stand when asked ‘who gives who away'” “We wanted to get married in an area that guests would love, we wanted people to stay the weekend so we chose to have our wedding on a Friday. And then we also organised casual drinks and lunch the next day.” 

 “We have the same values, we can communicate openly, and we are both quite open-minded and both willing to learn new things and improve ourselves.”

 “My bridesmaids and Maid of Honour were involved in most of the planning stages, but other than that we didn’t really involve others.”

 “Our reception catering was Italian canapés, but also rissoto and pizza.”

 “It was really special having all our family and friends in the same place for the weekend, most of all feeling the love from everyone!”
