1)The date they chose was Alexandra’s grandmother’s birthday;

2) their dream photographer was available;

3) the venue Alec found was available, too.

It seems like fate was on their side, especially as the bride, Alexandra, chose the very first dress she tried on! Even though she had to double check it was still The One a couple of months down the track.

One choice Alex never questioned was the one where she decided to marry Alec. Their love and downright joy in each other’s company is evident in the images and film below, telling the story of their dream day. I couldn’t help but smile and fall a little in love with them myself when putting together this article!

I know you’re going to adore them and their super stylish wedding, too. The Brisbane couple were married at the Mooloolaba Marina venue, Pier 33, before taking off for a fun photo shoot with their bridal party at Point Cartwright.

Let’s hear from the Groom…

I had been trying to propose all day however there were a number of interruptions to my efforts. We spent the morning at the beach with her sister and brother in law, but they decided to pack up and leave before I got a moment. Then, Alex ran into an old friend, and the conversation kept flowing. When they departed, the weather had turned so we headed back home. The ring went back into the pocket for another day. With an overcast morning the next day, I was able to convince her to have a coffee on the beach. It was overcast and slightly windy, not ideal, with Alex wanting to go home- somehow I convinced her to stay ‘until the sun comes up.’ I kissed her and maneuvered onto one knee before she realised what was happening, I asked her to spend forever with me. After smothering me in kisses, I realised she never actually said yes.

Most emotional moment of the day

I now pronounce you Mr and Mrs Gold!

The one thing I’ll never forget

Repeating the words ‘my husband’ and ‘your wife’ during the vows- the smile could not be wiped from our faces.

Highest wedding planning priority

I always knew that I wanted Beccy Smith (of XOX Weddings) to photograph my wedding, so the moment that we were engaged she was the first vendor we messaged to see if she was available.

Biggest challenge

Planning it in five months! We decided to get married on my grandma’s birthday on the 27th of September. When we confirmed Pier 33 and Beccy were available in 2019, we couldn’t wait for the following year. It was definitely stressful at times, but it also encouraged us to not fret over the small details and to make quick decisions.

I chose my wedding dress six days after we were engaged. I tried on a few different dresses, but returned to the first one I tried on. I ended up having to go back two months later with wedding jitters just to make sure it was what I wanted as it was such a blur!

Our next big adventure.

We’ve nailed it. Wedding, house and baby in 12 months.

Biggest splurge: Our neon sign that we got made purely for the reception, it now hangs in our dining room as a wonderful reminder of the event. It reads – The Golds.

Best money-saving decision: A few small DIY projects and cutting out all the typical ‘fluff’ that comes with a big event.

Melanie arrived on her dad’s boat before being escorted to her wedding ceremony overlooking the Mooloolaba Marina. After saying their vows in front of family and friends, Mel and Mitch took to the boat once more to capture some stunning images as the sun set.  

Theirs was a relaxed modern coastal wedding style, where their guests enjoyed canapés and mingling by the water, then family share style feasting. The espresso martinis flowed, and live music kicked off – a wonderful time had by all!

There were so many seriously stunning images we simply could not fit in the pages of our summer online magazine, so today I’m sharing never-before-seen images from our Palm Springs wedding shoot here on the blog. 

The shoot took place on location at Mooloolaba Beach, where natural beauty is the only inspiration you really need. In this central Sunshine Coast beach spot the photo ops are endless with the headland providing a horizon backdrop with plenty of pandanus trees to peek through, while you’re at it. 

Our lovely Palm Springs wedding models, Kate and Chris, showed us what love on the shoreline of Mooloolaba Beach should look like. Kate was dressed in a blush Judy Copley Bridal gown with ruffles that looked the part against the foam on the sandy shore. Chris was dressed from head to toe by Suits Direct .

Mooloolaba Spit Parklands is a special place for local couple, Emma and Michael. It’s both the place they first said those three little words to one another, and it’s the special spot Michael chose to propose. So it seemed only fitting for the pair to be married there.

Their 60 closest family and friends came together to witness the couple’s vows in an elegant rustic ceremony with a view of the calm waters. Afterwards, they went on a short tour of the area for their photos together. Choosing not to have any attendants for their wedding was an easy choice for Emma and Michael, saying it saved both money and drama, keeping the focus on what really mattered – their love and union of marriage.

Once the formalities were done, it was time for a celebration with great food, music and dancing at their wedding reception with all their guests at The Surf Club Mooloolaba.

Janneke Storm was Emma and Michael’s dream photographer, who captured breathtaking memories of their Mooloolaba Surf Club wedding.

 “My advice is to remember that the bride sets the tone for the day – be calm, be happy and soak it all in as it really does come and go too quickly.”   “Going dress shopping with my mum will definitely be a moment that I’ll cherish forever. My dress was actually the first one I had tried on, and as they say ‘when you know, you know’.”“We held our ceremony at Mooloolaba Spit Parklands – it was the same spot where we shared our first ‘I love yous’ and where Michael popped the question, so it only felt natural to get married there, too.” “We chose not to have a bridal party, but still involved the people closest to us in special ways leading up to and on the day. It’s a decision we made right from the start as we really just wanted the day to be about us and our love for each other, and we also didn’t want to put our friends and loved ones on a hierarchy.”

“It was beautiful and sunny up until half an hour before our ceremony when a storm appeared on the radar and it was heading straight for Mooloolaba, and fast! But something, someone, somewhere was certainly looking after us that day as the storm miraculously changed direction at the very last minute, and completely missed us. It made for the most beautiful backdrop, and we’ve even had guests tell us that there was a clap of thunder as we kissed!”

“Not having a bridal party left a few gaps that needed to be filled but without having to ask, we had close friends ensure our day and the lead up to it was flawless.”

“We met through work nearly seven years ago.”

“It is funny how all the detailed planning fades on the day to a whirlwind of emotion and fun. It really was the best day ever. I got to marry my best friend, nothing could ever get in the way of that.”

“Michael and I met just after some pretty tragic events occured in both our lives. It’s times like these that you are reminded about how short life can be and how precious it really is, so we really work hard to ensure we make the most of each day and cherish the special little moments in-between the big milestones.”

  “We had an amazing three-course meal. Having good food and plenty of it was important. Let’s just say my husband’s second love is food and he was keen to get this right.”

Long-time locals, Sam and Cassie, felt a deep connection to Point Cartwright having grown up with so many memories tied to the place, so they could think of no better place to wed. 

Their wedding theme was a classic shabby chic beach affair with mint blue, whites, and neutrals with aged wood, baby’s breath and white wash furniture. Cassie says there was no debate over the theme, as both were on the same page, unable to picture their special day any other way. 

Janneke Storm captured each splendid moment. 

“I am so lucky to have had my Mum come to every dress fitting with me. Even though the multiple drives to Brisbane weren’t desirable, we always turned the trip into a girls’ day out by shopping and going on lunch dates.”

“Sam and I grew up on the Sunshine Coast and spent a lot of our childhood at Point Cartwright. Being able to say our vows in front of close family and friends at such a sentimental spot was an absolute dream come true.”

“During the ceremony, traditionally just the family give their blessing for our marriage, however we both agreed that both family and friends are equally important to us so all family and friends were requested to give their blessing.”

“For the reception, we wanted to ensure that the guests ate delicious food, drank quality beverages and danced all night long whilst having a night to remember. We believed that even though it was our special day, we wanted to make sure our guests enjoyed themselves too.”

It was a quick engagement for Emily and Mark, who planned their Mooloolaba wedding in only 7 months. Having known each other for 14 years since meeting at church, they simply did not see the need to muck about. The beautiful bride says they each complement one another and they are, quite simply, best friends. Aw!

Mark’s pastor dad married the pair at Penny Lane Park, and then they kicked on with a shin dig at waterfront venue, Mooloolaba Surf Club. Their strict budget of $10,000 stretched to accommodate 100 guests, who started the day with a super sweet treat of fairy floss while they anticipated the bride’s arrival.

The bride styled the wedding herself with cute little touches, such as scrabble pieces, vintage books and hessian touches for a little coastal rustic charm. The day was captured beautifully by Sunshine Coast photographer, Kristy Whittington from A Look Photography.
