It’s an unexpected boho colour palette with rusty tones and yellow accents in the striking floral arrangements by Heavenly Blooms. The bouquet is a gathering of organic foliage, dotted with sweet mustard Billy Buttons and fastened with a deep gold ribbon.

For the reception styling by Sacred Wilde, warm brown tones and natural shades blend with the scenery. Black and white bring in pops of drama to the low-lying table setting. A diversity of textures are scattered throughout the styling with cow hide, rattan, wood, macramé and a peek of Turkish rug patterning.

They spend around nine months planning their destination wedding, which had a quaint charm about it with a natural setting. First impressions last, as they say, and it was clear from the beginning Yandina Station was their dream wedding location. 

Under the magnificent fig tree, the cute couple said their vows, surrounded by 122 of their nearest and dearest. Adding a special touch to the ceremony, they displayed the wedding portraits of Blake’s grandparents and Felicia’s great-grandparents, which was a beautiful way to have their passed loved ones share in their special day.

A chance meeting at a local surf club here on the Sunshine Coast lead to happily ever after for Victorian Emilie and Queenslander, Ben. Her trip to Queensland yielded much more than she bargained for, and she ended up moving interstate just a few months later. 

When it came to their wedding day, Emilie and Ben wanted nothing more than to have all their family and friends in one place for a few days to enjoy each others’ company in a relaxed atmosphere. Noosa North Shore Retreat provided the perfect rustic setting with both the beach and the bush, and made for some really fun bridal party photos when the large group trekked out in gum boots and all. 

Bride, Emilie, says her Noosa North Shore Wedding was so much fun and such a perfect reflection of her and her now husband as a couple, she would do it all again.

Biggest splurge: For the wedding day itself, we spent the most on our photographers, Matt and Amanda Rowe. They were amazing on the day having to deal with our massive bridal party and the photos turned out perfect.

Best bargain: My wonderful friend, Sally, who was our celebrant not only offered her services for free but also organised the best wedding cake ever as our wedding gift. She made our ceremony perfect and the cake was to die for. It was wheels of cheese!

Bride, Rikki, describes herself and her new husband, Clive, as “not too fancy” so it was apt they planned a rustic wedding in the cute Sunshine Coast hinterland town of Obi Obi at the local community hall. 

Guests totaling precisely 86 flocked to the celebration of Rikki and Clive’s marital union, and enjoyed a spit roast and bonfire to the tune of local three-piece band Soul 2 You. 

SimonJCoulson Photographer was there to capture the day in his signature documentary style.  

“It had been raining the whole week before Easter so we were tense that it would rain however it stayed overcast and the sun came out. ““Instead of taking our groomsmen and bridesmaids with us for photos, we chose our best man, maid of honour and parents. This was special and deliberate as our lives are very much family orientated and due to the limited number of seats in the Vintage Stretch Paige Graham!”  “Think of a few goals or do a quick quiz together about how you want to feel on your wedding day and you will be surprised to learn you may want different things ­ its a great starting point as our theme and constant grounding developed from doing this!”   “The most special parts of the day… the way I felt when I saw Clive under the arbour, our photo locations, the cake!, dancing, our first dance (we are terrible dancers and this definitely showed!), announcing to our family and friends we are expecting our first baby, simply living in the present moment and thinking of those who couldn’t be there to celebrate with us.” Wedding Secrets

Stewie must have had some sense knocked into him when he bumped his head on a chandelier at a dinner party some three years ago, because the girl giggling at him ended up his wife. Piano teacher, Kelsey, was taken by this tall – albeit clumsy – drink of water, and now calls him her best friend and husband. 

Their DIY backyard wedding ceremony took place in Kelsey’s grandmother’s garden in Flaxton in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, followed by a reception at Obi Obi Hall.

“I gave Stewie a double swag for all our camping adventures, he gave me an Akubra hat. We have the groomsmen and fathers monogrammed Zippo lighters and the bridesmaids got the wedding day accessories including a clutch, jewellery and a handmade wrap.“

“Our photographer, Renee Towers, pre-planned all of our locations. The first was in my grandmother’s garden, then at a bridge creek crossing on Obi Obi Road and finally an old dairy farm up the road from the reception hall.”

“One really special part was that my piano teacher, Marion Kilchester, played for the procession. She even wrote a special piece of music just for us that was played when we made our way back up the aisle.”

“My Grandmother passed down her wedding dress and veil so that I could use them if I wanted. I went and tried on gowns in stores but nothing had quite the charm of that dress. My mother painstakingly and carefully altered it whilst maintaining as much of the original charm as possible. To have a similar dress made that just suited me so perfectly would definitely have made a dent in the budget. She did an amazing job especially as one of my criteria was ‘can play badminton in it’!”

Biggest splurge: Having cinematographers, not because it was over-priced; we were so lucky to be offered an amazing low-cost deal,  because it was an ‘extra’ for us, a luxury that was worth every cent!

Best bargain: The flowers! I would never have imagined that we could afford to have fresh arrangements decorating the ceremony, pre-reception and reception, on top of bouquets and button holes, but with our friend Helen sourcing the flowers from the markets and putting them all together for us, we got it all for $300.  She was on the same page as me from the beginning and she did the most amazing job.

Accessories: Cousin’s 2 tired veil (something borrowed),  Grandmother’s gold and pearl brooch in my hair (something old)

Shoes: Hot pink kitten heels, Restricted from Shop Ruche

Bridesmaid dresses: Mushroom dress with pink lace overlay, Jayson Brundson from Myer.

Bridesmaids’ accessories: Ceramic ivory flower worn in hair from the Forest Glen Organic Market Place.  Rose gold shoes, not sure where from.  Own jewellery.

Groom’s suit and shoes:  Grey and black suit from Connor. Vans from City Beach.

Groomsmens’ suits and shoes:  Grey shirts, ties, black pants from Myer. Vans from City Beach.

Jewellery/rings: Our rings were also pretty special and unique, we had them made for by Eckart Schillings from Rings for Brides  Mine is a loop of tiny gold leaves and Jesses is brushed stainless with a single gold leaf embedded into the steel.

DIY: The barn at the homestead is completely bare to begin with, so the majority of the set up was DIY. Jesse made the timber bar himself. We made the invitations, the vases out of coffee jars, hanging tealights out of wire and little glass jars, flower balls out of book pages and lots of other decorative pieces.  We also put together the gourmet picnic baskets ourselves.

We first saw them play at Utribe festival in 2009 and have gone to see them numerous times since, so it was pretty special that we got to share our taste in music with our guests.“

“For me, the best thing about our wedding day was encapsulated in a single moment.  It was during our first dance, the live band playing a cover of ‘Bob Marley- This is love’, when nearly all of our guests joined us in a slow dance.  We had just enjoyed some wonderful speeches, our bellies were full of good food, the tealights were glowing and there was just so much love and happiness in that little barn. And we were married.”

Last week we brought you the first of our 2012 Tablescapes Trends series thanks to P.S. & Associates Event Planning, a US company that create some seriously stunning weddings for their clients. As wedding coordinators in the know, they have put together some tablescapes to reflect both their own unique style and the most on-trend themes and colour pallettes. 

When we saw these creative and well-put-together wedding table settings, we knew our Sunshine Coast brides and grooms would just go positively batty at the sight of them (in a good way!) Today we share with you installment number two in the four-part series of 2012 Tablescape Trend, the Rustic Succulent Paradise. Enjoy! 

"This table setting is called, “Succulent Paradise.”  This setting is for the more rustic and earthy bride.  The table setting is set on a natural burlap linen with a succulent terrarium centerpiece and aloe vera leaves surrounding.  

Bringing cactus and other succulents into any arrangements give it the rustic feel.  The plates are layered on an Antique Copper charger with the Gold Oplulence china.  We added the Morocco line of flatware and Rustica line of glassware to give it extra warmth and richness. 

The table setting is then fished with a few cigars and Dark Gold Velour chairs to bring a touch of opulence to the table."
