Under new ownership, Solothurn Rural Resort has been returned to its former glory with the love, care and dedication from its new owners. To celebrate, some talented Sunshine Coast wedding vendors have put together a styled shoot for your wedding inspirational pleasure. From bride and groom fashion to wedding hair and makeup, this shoot is on point. 

The country setting is stunning with photo opportunities at every turn. Natural surroundings are the highlight of the property, located just outside Maleny in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, but the onsite chapel is also a charming element. Fitted with stained glass windows, rich slate flooring and wooden pews, the interior of the chapel is matched in vintage style by the chapel’s exterior facade. The quaint country chapel vibes are complete with stone wall and lush tree. 

A country setting like this lends itself perfectly to a vintage style incorporating a few quintessentially Australian elements, like a pony, rustic wooden fences and native Australian blooms in the contemporary style bouquet.

After a laughter-filled ceremony at Maison La Plage at Noosa Main Beach, Alicia and Simon took their 85 guests to Noosa Boathouse for dinner, dancing and cupcakes. It was the Noosa destination wedding of their dreams.

“We really wanted a beach wedding, we originally looked into Fiji and Hamilton Island, but after considering everyone else and the expense they would have to pay to attend, we decided on Noosa. It has something for everyone. Noosa Boathouse was the perfect venue, the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and the views from the River Room (especially at sunset) are unbelievable.

“We really focused on our friends and family having the best time possible. We wanted the day to be relaxed and fun for all. Especially because it was a destination wedding and everyone had traveled so far to attend.”

Jenna says it’s lucky opposites attract, because she and Sam couldn’t be more different. However the important things they both hold close, like family values, goals and taking each day as it comes. 

They were a most united front when it came to planning their country-style wedding day with festival vibes (or westival, as the cool kids call it!) They hired a bunch of food trucks and tipis to create their own idea of the perfect chill wedding day in Yandina with their 80 loved ones, and all on a $12,000 budget. 

Bride, Jenna, has shared all her best wedding tips with us… 

Choosing the Venue

“We wanted a September wedding so booking the venue first was a must, so we didn’t miss out on a date in September. we wanted an outdoor wedding with a country vibe which limited options. We also wanted a venue where reception and ceremony can be held in the one place.

“We had talked in the past about having a wedding with hay bales to sit on. Food trucks and bath tubs full of alcohol. Something very simple and not to structured.”

Biggest Priority

“We wanted someone to capture the day in the right way. I think the photographer is the most important to be honest. The day is a whirlwind. So you need to have a great photographer to capture the day so you can look back on the day.”

“Lee from Life and Love Photography was outstanding! I cannot speak highly enough of Lee. After all when the day has been and gone, photos are all you have to look back on to remember the day. I think this is one vendor that is not to be tampered with. Don’t call on a friend that’s dabbled in photography. Get a professional. Trust me you wont be disappointed.”

“Mum lit a candle during the ceremony for those who have passed or simply couldn’t be there to celebrate our day. This candle burnt all night.”

Brooke and Chris’ wedding day was a long time coming. After 13 years together, and an 8-year engagement, the bride buckled down and got their perfect Noosa River wedding day planned from start to finish in just four months. 

Their day started at the picturesque Noosa River-front Resort, Culgoa Point Beach Resort, where they got ready overlooking the longest stretch of private beach in Noosa, seeing the occasional friend or relative SUPing past, Pelican perched on the bridge, or Brush Turkey coming right up to say hello on the ground floor room patio. The bride also got to take a sneaky peek as the florist and stylist set up right outside for their ceremony with a Hamptons feel.

The couple took their 85 guests on a river cruise before docking at Noosa Boathouse Restaurant for their reception, which was beautifully decked out with creative floral installations. 

Lee from Life and Love Photography was there to capture the day. 

 “I bought Chris a watch and he had a charcoal drawing commissioned by David Filer from South Africa. The drawing is something very close to my heart and was very special.”

 “We were both very relaxed and wrote our own vows. This made it very personal and light-hearted.”  “We decided to do something different and have the photographer take photos at the ceremony and then join everyone on the Catalina river cruise, which was in-between the ceremony and reception, and take photos of all our guests enjoying themselves. We have the best photos, which I was able to provide copies to the guests.”

Kelly and Mark say having their whole family come out from South Africa to be together to share in their special day made it the most special time.

The lovely couple are both originally from South Africa, but met in Melbourne and now live here on the Sunshine Coast. So making sure their international guests would enjoy their stay was of utmost importance in their planning. Knowing 80% of their wedding guests were travelling so very far to be with them on their wedding day at Yandina Station made the couple focus on what was most important, and forego the stressful part of wedding planning. What a grand idea, we say!

“We had a Noosa River Sunset Cruise the night before the wedding to give us a great opportunity to catch up with our guests without stressing on the wedding day. Best idea!”

“It was most important to us to make sure our wedding represented who we are as a couple, and to show our amazing guests how special they are to us. And to not get caught up in the stress of the planning, because at the end of the day as long you have a celebrant and your favourite people that’s all that matters!”

“We work as a couple because of our love and respect for each other, and our attitude that nothing is too difficult if you put lots of love, passion and commitment into it! 

“There are so many beautiful spots around the Yandina Station property so we didn’t have to go very far. The view of the paddocks was stunning after the rain with a beautiful rainbow, and then the sunset behind the property along the road to the cottages was perfect for intimate shots of just us two.”

“The groomsmen were a huge help on the day, they even decorated the cake! We had half an hour to recreate a ceremony set up inside because of the rain, so everyone pitched in to help out.”

“The week leading up to the wedding had stunning winter weather so we didn’t feel the need to think of a rainy weather option considering half the reason why we chose June to get married was for the clear days! But mother nature decided to make it rain right before our ceremony so had to delay the wedding by half an hour to set up an aisle inside. In hindsight it was absolutely perfect, very intimate and special. We wouldn’t have changed it at all!”

“We had canapés served whilst we were having photos taken, then stunning meat and fish with lots of vegetables in the middle of each table to make it feel like a big dinner party.”

Bridal gown: Isobelle dress from Anna Campbell. Bought at the Babushka Ballerina in Brisbane

Accessories: Garter made with material from my moms wedding dress 27 years ago. Veil made by Marilyn Crystelle and she tailored my dress as well. Forever New clutch

Shoes: Target ballet flats – I threw them out that night, best decision of the day to have comfortable, cheap shoes especially after all the mud!

We are particularly lusty for the fresh flower necklace, featuring delicate mini succulents, created by Poppy Lane Flowers By Design.

Both Angela and Bevan’s favourite places were locations for their engagement shoot with Life and Love Photography. Bevan’s BMX is worth more to him than his car, so an action shot was set up at his favourite track in Bli Bli on the Sunshine Coast. 

The pretty trees around the area, a cool graffiti wall were utilised. Angela’s happy place – the backdrop of gorgeous Mooloolaba Beach at sunset – was the perfect end to the beautiful shoot of this soon-to-be Mr & Mrs.
