What were the most emotional moments of the day, and those you’ll never forget?

Look after your mental health! It can be stressful. Breathe. And soak up every minute of your wedding day because it goes so fast- but it will be the best day of your life!!!

What were your wedding planning priorities?

Trying to keep costs down. Not to stress over too many things. That it wouldn’t rain! Haha. And that our reception met our expectations which it did! Bistro C was amazing.

Why did you choose to be married in Noosa? 

We have both loved Noosa since we were kids, and being in Noosa always makes us feel happy. Getting married with the ocean behind us, was just magical.

Which songs did you use for the big moments of the wedding day?

Walked down the aisle to “can’t help falling in love” by Kina Grannis. One more time by daft punk for entrance. Dreams by Fleetwood Mac for first dance, as this was the song we first danced to in the early stages of seeing each other.

Noosa has always held a place in their hearts. Their Noosa Heads wedding ended up being even better than their original plan. After all, there’s no place quite like Noosa.

The Proposal

We had our ring made together, but I didn’t know when it would happen. Nathan planned a very special summer solstice/eclipse sunset proposal by the waterfront with all of my favourite girls, my mum and grandma (and grandad) to be apart of the proposal. He learned and proposed to me in Japanese, as our lives are heavily influenced by Japan.

How We Met

We met when I began my career as a high school teacher at the same school. We clicked instantly and spent a year getting to know each other. Now, all the people who were around us said they could see our chemistry, even before we saw it ourselves. We spent a lot of time laughing and joking around, and built such a strong foundation for a long lasting marriage, without even knowing it!

Why I Married Him

Nathan and I have so much fun with each other, every single day. We can go a whole day sitting on the couch being silly together and it can feel like the best day. We just want to be around each other all the time and support each other through everything, we really are best friends.

Our Top Wedding Priority

One of our main priorities was to make sure that all of our family and close friends were with us on the day. We also had to be by the beach (a must for me!). We wanted the day to feel completely relaxed and very intimate. I have been mega obsessed with weddings since I was very little and Nathan knew this, so he made sure that I could have everything that was important to me for our special day.

Biggest Wedding-Planning Challenge

We originally spent a year planning our wedding in Byron Bay and had to do a quick 3 week turnaround when we couldn’t get through the borders. We didn’t want to postpone being married so we decided to do what we could to create a new wedding with the resources and time we had. We were so fortunate to have incredible and supportive suppliers who were flexible and generous throughout the (short) process and made our day happen! Our second planned wedding was even better and more aligned with what we wanted anyway, so we are so thankful! I highly recommend reassessing a second time around after the decisions have been made and the pressure is off, I made a lot better choices this time!

The Location

Noosa was always a special place to me, with lots of memories of childhood family holidays. The boardwalk and beach along Noosa Heads Main Beach has always been the epitome of coastal luxury to me. I couldn’t have imagined being anywhere else on my wedding day now. Even Byron Bay can’t offer a backdrop as beautiful as that.

Noosa Waterfront Restaurant was incredible at making sure we had everything we wanted, genuine staff with amazing service and everyone went out of their way to create a special event for us.

Wedding Secrets

Biggest splurge: Photographer, Beck is THE BEST. Accommodation, it was such a good decision to splash out on a beautiful place to get ready with views and space as well as it was a nice place to come back to and wake up the next day at with our post wedding glow.

Best money-saving decision: Using as much from the restaurant for styling as possible to save money so you can spend on a couple of extras like charger plates and pillar candles to style venue. Don’t feel bad to splash out on the few things you know will elevate the day and make you happy when you look back on it.

Actual cost of wedding: $40,000 (after we paid for two weddings!) Not including first wedding costs we didn’t get back Wedding 2.0 probably costed about $30,000.

In our first months after launching The Bride’s Tree back in 2011-12, we organised our very first magazine shoots working with Nicole and the styling team from Splash Events. After a ton of careful planning, the day came for our bright, summer-inspired beach shoot… and the weather was cyclonic. 

At Shelly Beach in Caloundra, we huddled in the back of a truck Nicole Hopkins had packed full of furniture and styling items for our boho-themed shoot. As the rain poured and we stared out at the ominous dark clouds rolled in fast over the ocean horizon. 

Just as we were starting to feel the realisation setting in that we may have to pack it in, Nicole looked at us and said, “Okay, we’re doing this. Let’s get it all ready in here and when there’s a break we grab and run.” 

And we did. 

To this day, it’s still one of my favourite shoot experiences and taught us that no matter what, the show must go on, and when you’re working with ultimate pros like Nicole and her team, it always will. 

Read on to learn more about Nicole’s journey as a wedding stylist who, over the past 15 years has built up her business from a one man show to the Sunshine Coast’s largest wedding and events company. 

Nicole, what does a day in the life of a wedding stylist look like?

My job is incredibly busy and every day is different! I could be meeting with clients, preparing mood boards and proposals – I do love this creative part!

At the same time I’m also preparing for the events that lie ahead, organising suppliers, floor plans, managing the stock selection with the warehouse team, rostering the staff and creating the event schedule which is often minute by minute. Then the action part, where I am very hands on setting up events and you’ll often find my up a ladder and carrying chairs and furniture.

This is hard work, but also one of my favourite parts of the process. It is so exciting seeing a concept come to life and to witness the delight of the client when they finally see what they had dreamed.

Whenever I get time, I’m also always researching new trends and finding inspiration and buying way too much new decor!

Prior to working in the wedding industry, what did you do?

I have always felt drawn to everything and anything creative. After School I started working at the local then ‘Grace Bros’ (now Myer) in the Manchester department with two very strict and hardworking bosses, they soon taught me what working hard and customer service is all about.

I found myself making that department look the best it had ever looked (I was told), making beds, folding towels perfectly and colour coordinating all the linen and displays. It wasn’t long and I was picked up by the Visual Merchandising team and over 9 years worked my way up to assistant manager in one of Sydney’s largest stores and was then selected in an elite traveling team merchandising refurbished and new stores ready for launches and grand openings.

Over those years I studied interior design and decorating at night and completed a Bachelor in Design.

What is one unique thing that makes your business stand out from the crowd?

Share something that’s interesting about you, or something a lot of people don’t realise.

While I’m known as a creative workaholic, it wasn’t all work and no play. I’ve done a lot a travel and spent six years travelling around Australia in a kombi – then ventured overseas for a world trip – surfing and snowboarding around the world. Travel has certainly been a major influence in my work and design style.

How do you like to spend your days off?

My free days are spent with my children and friends relaxing on our beautiful beaches with a bottle of wine, a picnic set up and a grazing platter… followed by a night out in Noosa with dinner and dancing!

 

What can we expect to see in weddings this year?

2022 is shaping up to be an incredible year for weddings and events on the Sunshine Coast. Due to restricted international travel and the natural beauty this region offers, Noosa, the Hinterland and the Sunshine Coast will continue to grow as key wedding destinations.

Our planning department is expanding to assist interstate brides and grooms in creating their dream wedding. Predicted trends… like in 2021, 2022 will still see smaller more intimate weddings and luxurious private dining experiences.

Although their original planned wedding with 80 guests in March 2020 had to be postponed, bride Hannah says she couldn’t be happier with the day she wed her love, Tom. Their intimate private property wedding in Noosa turned out to be an authentic reflection of them as a couple. 

After a beach wedding ceremony at Hidden Grove on Noosa’s Main Beach, the couple and their 29 guests headed back to their private property for a catered reception.

The Bride’s Best Advice

Take some quality time for you and your partner before the madness of your day begins. Tom and I snuck away for an early morning beach swim and coffee on the morning of our wedding. The rest of the wedding day was such a blur, but I’m glad we got those quiet moments just us two before it all started. Looking back now, it is one of my favourite memories from our wedding day.

Biggest Wedding-planning Priority

Our priorities really shifted after having to cancel our original wedding due to COVID-19. It made us focus in on what was truly important – getting married to each other in the company of our closest friends and family. We also wanted our day to be laid back and authentic to us as a couple.

Greatest Challenge During the Process

COVID-19! We had originally planned to get married in March 2020, with 80 guests and at a different venue. Unfortunately, a week before the wedding, COVID reared its ugly head and we had to cancel our original plan. After that, we decided that a big wedding just wasn’t going to happen in 2020, so we downsized our plans. We ended up having an intimate wedding at Hidden Grove, followed by a reception at a private property.

Our Meet Cute

Tom was the IT guy at the hospital where I worked and had to deal with my constant calls to fix a myriad of computer problems… One night we ran into each other at a bar and recognised each other from work. After that we hit it off right away!

Why I Married Tom

Tom is the kindest, most patient person I’ve ever met. He is so full of joy and makes me laugh every single day. It was really a no-brainer!

Wedding Secrets

Biggest splurge: Luxe accommodation for the wedding weekend for us and our whole bridal party.

In honour of the new (I’d like to say “- and improved”, but 2020 got us like…) era of the 20’s, we put together a photo shoot for our latest magazine that harps back to the 1920’s. Knowing lots of shoots with a Gatsby style would start cropping up, we wanted to go in another direction, incorporating a more classic, traditional feel. 

Couples who were wed in the manor houses like the one Downton Abbey was styled off were all about luxe details, yet understated sophistication. Dreamy, lush floral arrangements were ever present, while bridal fashion was about chic lines and little embellishment for sincere glamour of the times. 

When Tradition + Modern are a Match Made in Heaven

Every detail down to the very English traditional four-tiered off-white cake, crystal glassware, and silver candelabras scream “vintage”, yet the lace table runner and dusty pink linen napkins, along with the festoon and fairy lighting bring in the modern element.

The classy stationery suite hinted at the calligraphy style that would have been sent to all of polite society in times gone by, complete with wax seals. 

Our stellar team of wedding pros came together to create something truly authentic, yet with a modern twist that resulted in some seriously unique Sunshine Coast wedding inspiration.

Bride Rochell says her most emotional moment of her wedding day came two minutes before walking down the aisle. Then she saw how incredible everything looked, and all her family and friends waiting to celebrate, and it all melted away. 

Rochell’s husband, Jonathan, was the one who worked alongside Splash Events to create a stunning contemporary poolside wedding with style up the wazoo. 

The one moment Rochell says she will never forget is looking into her husband’s eyes and saying, “I do.” 

The pair were married on a private property in Doonan, and Rochell was kind enough to share her wedding planning journey and stories from the day with us… 

The Location

My home town. The Sunshine Coast is an amazing place so many beautiful places – why wouldn’t you (get married here)? We hired a house in Doonan with a beautiful arbor and grass area at the back of the house. We also hired the house next door to the venue house in Doonan; we didn’t want to be told at 10pm to end the party!

Highest Priority For Our Wedding

Music! I’ve known Mia Wray for sometime; I’ve always loved her voice, and so did Jonathan. We flew Mia up from Melbourne for the our special day she worth every penny spent.

Biggest Wedding-planning Challenge

The weather. Getting married in October was a very risky move; it is the most wet season in Queensland! We were very lucky enough to have the one weekend it didn’t rain, so we could enjoy the sun and the stars throughout the day and night.

The Proposal

We were on holiday on bail, on our way to our anniversary dinner when Jonathan drop to one knee and asked me to marry him. We were both crying.. I said yes We had an amazing dinner and spent the rest of night celebrating.

Our Next Big Adventure

Jonathan and I just bought our forever home and we have a baby on the way due in July, so I would definitely say that is our next adventure.

It isn’t always easy living over the other side of the world from the familiar, but Scottish doctors, Charlie and Chris, have made Australia their home.

For their Noosa wedding, they brought a little bit of home with them. The groom wore a kilt right on Noosa beach – as did the couple’s gorgeous fur baby! While the bride wore a stunning form-fitting low-back gown, we’re not sure who would have turned more heads!

After a laughter-filled ceremony at Maison La Plage at Noosa Main Beach, Alicia and Simon took their 85 guests to Noosa Boathouse for dinner, dancing and cupcakes. It was the Noosa destination wedding of their dreams.

“We really wanted a beach wedding, we originally looked into Fiji and Hamilton Island, but after considering everyone else and the expense they would have to pay to attend, we decided on Noosa. It has something for everyone. Noosa Boathouse was the perfect venue, the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and the views from the River Room (especially at sunset) are unbelievable.

“We really focused on our friends and family having the best time possible. We wanted the day to be relaxed and fun for all. Especially because it was a destination wedding and everyone had traveled so far to attend.”

Kate says she married Ricky because, “He is the most genuine, caring person I have ever met and he makes me smile everyday.”

Of his bride, Ricky says, “Kate’s the smartest and most unselfish person I’ve ever met with a beautiful smile.”

Altogether now, “Awwww!” We can see the love is real in this Noosa River wedding, and bride Kate has shared some words about her day… 

Our biggest wedding wants

“Noosa is our favourite place in the world and we wanted our guests to experience everything it has to offer as well as make it fun and relaxing for us and our guests, so the entertainment was a huge priority.

“It is the most beautiful place in the world. We holiday here with our family each year and often eat at the Noosa Waterfront Restaurant & Bar. Even being the busiest weekend in Noosa, It is a private and intimate location right on the waters edge. It is such a special location.”

Standout Vendors 

“Willow Bud and Splash Events. Both were so accommodating and went over and above to make sure our setup was perfect. Of course Sally and Niki with the hair and makeup were incredible in the lead up to the wedding. They were heaps fun and so calming to have around!”

The Proposal 

“Ricky convinced me to go for a walk along the triathlon course to loosen up before the race. After 3km of walking along the Warrnambool foreshore, Ricky decided it would be the perfect moment to propose. He stopped on the path, got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. Of course I said… yes!”

Unforgettable Memories 

“For me, the most emotional moment was walking over the bridge to marry the man of my dreams with my two biggest supports and the most influential people by my side, mum and dad.

“We will never forget how sore our cheeks and feet were were from smiling and dancing so much. It was just the best day of our lives.”

Wedding Secrets

Biggest splurge: The Catalina to entertain the guests between the ceremony and the reception, while the photos. Being a destination wedding we wanted to make sure our guests got to experience some of the best parts of Noosa and to us that was the Noosa river.

Best bargain: Our invitations. We used Canva to create out invited and printed them ourselves. We also created a website with more detailed information about Noosa that guests could access and RSVP to all digitally.

The cake was an impressive five tiers, complete with cutting cake and delicious donuts by the dozens, created by Chocolate2Chilli.
