Australian YouTuber and Instagram influencer, Skye Wheatley, donned a custom-designed bridal gown by Sunshine Coast designer, Marilyn Crystelle Bridal and picnicked with her handsome beau, Lachlan, and some other good-looking characters. 

Photographer Charlotte Marshall of Forever in This Moment Photography was the mastermind behind taking Skye and Lachlan for a lovers picnic at Qcamel Farm.

Charlotte said, “I wanted to create some unique styled shoots just to shake things up a little bit. I want my brides to dream a little, step outside the box and pin from their own love story rather than the internet.”

The residents of Qcamel Farm were kind enough to don their glad rags especially for the occasion.

This Saturday, July 28, will be a beautiful day for a drive into the countryside to check out one of the Sunshine Coast’s most sought after wedding venues. The Rocks will be opening its doors to the public, so you can take a stroll through the sprawling secluded property and imagine your own wedding day in this beautiful location. 

When and Where

Entry to the Open House is completely free, so come along between 10:30am – 2:30pm to The Rocks, 1410 Yandina Coolum Road, Coolum.

You’ll also have the opportunity to meet a cohort of the Sunshine Coast’s best wedding suppliers, and talk all things wedding planning. Florists, stylists, celebrants, beauty gurus and more will be on hand to answer all your pressing questions and offer their sage advice. The Venue

The Rocks offers complete seclusion, close to some of the most beautiful Sunshine Coast beaches, yet far enough away for total privacy and that country feel. The rustic setting has a certain elegant tranquility with an outlook to the Maroochy River.

We heard about the sweetest ever Valentine’s Day proposal over the weekend. Here is the story from the bride herself, Kandis Laughton, who is now engaged to her 10-year-long sweetheart, Brae. The pair live in Mooloolaba with their 2-year-old son. 

“14 has always been a significant number to me, I don’t know why, I just love it!

The night before Valentine’s Day, Brae informs me he has to start work at 5.30am (usual start is 8am.) My son and I woke to a phone call from Brae’s mum, she says “I dont know how you feel about this, but I was meant to go up in the seaplane (belonging to friends) this morning but now have an appointment, would you like to take my spot.” I replied with “I would love to!”

Brae’s parents picked myself and my son up, took us to Caloundra airport. The seaplane is very small and only fits three people max. It was myself, the pilot and his wife. We where heading to DI, we got to The Point and started turning to go around to the Rainbow Beach side to land in the bay. As we turned, there was a massive sign on the sand dune saying “Kandis Marry Me” I started to giggle. Then I noticed Brae out to sea on a private sand bar… waiting.

We landed in the water, I jumped out and went to Brae, he dropped on one knee and said “Kandis, will you marry me, finally?” I said yes with all my heart. His sister captured this beautiful moment on camera!! It followed by champagne, cheese, crackers, and homemade avocado dip, on a beautilful blanket and cushions from home. He even managed to bring a bench seat, for photos.”

Personally I can’t think of a better way to spend a Sunday than consorting with wedding vendors and seeing all the pretty things at the Sunshine Coast Bridal Showcase. It’s an absolutely fantastic way to make a start on your wedding planning by seeing live displays from stylists and florists, meeting makeup artists and hair stylists, chatting with photographers to get a feel for their style, and of course sitting down, wide-eyed watching the jaw-dropping prettiness of the bridal fashion show.

Beautiful bride, Taryn, married her long-time love, Ben, in a sweet vintage-inspired wedding with loads of little details we just love. This is one of the prettiest DIY weddings we have ever seen, so we simply had to share with you how clever she is!

Taryn and Ben had been together eight years when they got engaged, so they didn’t see the sense in waiting too much longer to call each other husband and wife. And so they gave themselves only six months to plan and execute their dream wedding. A love of craft and styling, and also time and budget constraints, lead to Taryn going full DIY for her wedding styling. She came up with her entire concept for both her marquee ceremony decorations and her reception tablescapes. 

Rustic, vintage, and a bringing-the-outdoors-in feel were all brought together for the fresh and details-heavy concept Taryn came up with. The result is a really pretty and stylish wedding that really wowed her guests. 

We love these images from awesome Sunshine Coast wedding photographer, Julian Beattie Photography. Taryn has oh-so-kindly confessed in her own words below just how she went about begging, borrowing and stealing (okay, not actually stealing, but renting) her way to DIY wedding success. Enjoy! 

“I found a tutorial on You Tube that showed me how to construct tissue paper flowers, and a friend gave me the heart garland. She is a school teacher, and had her students cut out all of the gold cardboard hearts for her own wedding!”

“I bought the card tags from Ebay, and made vellum-look stickers from Officeworks that I printed on from my computer at home.”

“I found the cutest silver tea set and cake stand from St. Vincent de Paul op shop. It took a littloe bit of work to polish up, but it was so worth it. All of them together cost only $30! I rented the typewriter from Fresh Honey Weddings“

“I wanted to include some old family wedding photos from both sides of the family, because none of our grandparents could be there on the day. Some had passed away, and some were just not physically able to be there for one reason or another.”

“My maid of honour’s mother lent me the beauty case she received for her 21st birthday 45 years ago.”

“Bride and Groom heart-shaped chalk board signs were hired from Fresh Honey Weddings.”

“I enlisted everyone to keep hold of their jam and coffee jars in the months leading up to my wedding and ended up with a huge collection. I removed the labels and wrapped them in hessian and lace. The flowers were purchased the day before the wedding at the local markets. My friend’s mother overlocked the edges of the hessian table runners, which I purchased from Spotlight. LOVE bunting was also hired from Fresh Honey Weddings. Our wedding faviours for our guests were a variety of olive oils that I made myself. Some had balsamic and thyme, others had rosemary, chilli and garlic.”

“My mum has a beautiful collection of vintage tea cups. My favourites are the Royal Dalton pieces, which I placed on each table with more tissue paper flowers in them. So pretty!”

Monday went off with a bang and a stunningly gorgeous summer wedding shoot with inspiring beauty, fashion, styling and florals. 

Then we had one amazing Sunshine Coast wedding cake creator share her five fave cakes from the past year. 

I reviewed a Maleny wedding venue with its own chapel that boasts one of the most gorgeous panoramic views on the coast. 

We shared a whole pin board full of floral lovin'. 

And finished off the week with a sweet-as-pie pre-wedding film, that will really get you in the mood for Valentine's Day!

Our amazing, gorgeous Summer edition of The Bride’s Tree Magazine is out today!

I am so thrilled to share this beautiful bunch o’ pages with you. I hope you find as much inspiration from flipping through its pages as I did putting it together. There are four stunning real weddings in there – two Maleny weddings, a Montville wedding, a Flaxton wedding.

We also coordinated two styled shoots that could not be more opposite from one another – the first took place on the shores of Shelly Beach, Caloundra, while the other was an Australian bush theme at a very secluded Yandina property overlooking the Maroochy River. 

Everything is just so beautiful. What a wonderful world of weddings we live in!
