DIY Wedding Cake Stand For Under $5

If you're planning to do some DIY for your Sunshine Coast wedding, you will have to give this simple cake stand a try. It will cost you next to nothing if you go to your local op shop for supplies, and it gives you the opportunity to tie in any colour scheme you have in mind for your wedding day decorations.

Step 1. Get together your supplies. Here's what you will need:

  • A plate.  We found this cute vintage plate at our local op shop for 50 cents!
  • Spray paint in your chosen colour.
  • Super glue
  • An old wine glass or you can use an old candlestick holder. Once again, we purchased ours from an op shop for a whopping 50 cents.

Step 2. Lay out some butchers paper or newspaper and spray paint the wine glass inside and out. Next, spray paint the bottom of your plate. To ensure your cake stand is food safe, don't spray paint the top side of the plate.  If you find a plate with cute little vintage details like our plate, you won't want to spray paint over it anyway.

Step 3. Wait for the paint to dry and then super glue the wine glass to the bottom of the plate.

Step 4. Place a phone book on the top of the wine glass to ensure it sticks together properly and then wait until the glue has dried.

Step 5. Flip your fancy pants cake stand over, and presto, you have your very own DIY cake stand which has cost you under $5!

Now all you need is a cake to put on top!  For ideas and inspiration for your wedding cake and a list of some of the Sunshine Coast's best Wedding Cake making extraordinaires, take a look through our Supplier Directory.
