Cloud Nine Weddings‘ ceremony set up and reception styling included native blooms, very much in keeping with the venue itself that is home to a mob of kangaroos and has an iconic Australian feel with paper bark trees providing a dreamy canopy.

Fortunately, the couple’s Alaskan Malamute, Jetta, was able to join in the festivities after a recent major surgery, with the help of pet assistants from Loveable Pet People.

We laid out in the sun and he started to say some beautiful things about us and our lives and our future, which caught me completely off guard, and then his hand was holding the ring and he asked me to marry him. I was completely shook and of course I said, ‘YES!’ When I could get the word out! We have gone from zero-100 in our relationship and wouldn’t have it any other way. When you know, you know. “

Under a tipi on the green at Novotel Twin Waters Resort, Brisbane couple Emily and Andrew celebrated their wedding with an intimate wedding for just 25 of their closest family and friends, including their three children. 

Emily says the love of her life, Andrew, is the most supportive partner a girl could ask for. He’s the best daddy to the couple’s three little munchkins, and a really great surprise proposer… 

The Proposal

“Andrew and I had been together for nine years. I actually wasn’t sure we would get married – him proposing at all was a big surprise! He proposed a few days before my 30th birthday with our 10 month old daughters help. It was a very emotional, super sweet moment.”

“Honestly we could not have asked for more from every single supplier! They were all amazing to deal with and went above and beyond what I expected! We had not met our photographer Bonnie prior to our wedding but it was like we had known her forever, she made two people who are very awkward in front of the camera feel so comfortable and Nat from Heavenly Blooms produced such stunning work with very little guidance from me. I showed her what we were all wearing and she just did her thing. I was also very worried about my makeup as I don’t wear any normally but Louise really listened and I was so happy with the result. I could honestly go on and on about all of our suppliers.”

“The only thing I would change is that I would hire a videographer. Planning the wedding we didn’t think we needed one, but looking back now I would love that video reminder of the day as it truly goes by so quickly.”

When Janéne and Jamie became engaged, the Sunshine Coast was top of their list for where they wanted to say their vows to one another. Read Janéne’s own words below to find out why…. 

They kicked off their wedding day with a ceremony on the waterfront Pandanas Lawn at Novotel Twin Waters Resort, complete with those iconic Pandanas Trees we love here in Queensland. 

Sunshine Coast wedding photographer Adriana Watson was there to capture all the special moments from Janéne and Jamie’s special day. If I ended up with images of myself as stunning as these of Janéne I’d be one happy bride, just saying. 

Janéne was kind enough to share some words about her special day with us, so without further ado… 

The Proposal

“We had gone to the place where we had our first date, and this was normal as we would go there every now and then. And as we were sitting together looking out at the ocean, Jamie took my hand and started reciting a poem he had written, which turned out to be his proposal and of course I said YES!”

The Location

“The Sunshine Coast is where our story began, we met at the University of Sunshine Coast and our reception venue was just as important to us as it was our favourite restaurant, where we would frequent even before we started dating and celebrated many specials occasions over the years. It was only fitting that our most special day was celebrated there too.”

Paying homage to their early days, Janéne and Jamie headed to the University of the Sunshine Coast to take some photos in the place where they first met! Then they went on to catch that perfect afternoon light at Point Cartwright with Adriana Watson Photography.

Jamie and Daniel spent 18 months planning their Twin Waters Wedding at Novotel Twin Waters Resort.

Being a destination wedding, they had family and friends travelling from all over, even as far as London and Nepal. The resort was the perfect location, as many of their 70 guests chose to stay for a fun group holiday.

The wedding itself kept the coastal vibes strong with a strong influence of girly romance. An ombre of large plush pink blooms and rose gold styling details are stand outs. 

Bride, Jamie, shares her special day with us and all the inside goss on her Twin Waters wedding… 

How they met

“We met through friends while both studying at University of the Sunshine Coast. Dan had moved to the Coast with his family from England, and I had relocated from Roma in south west Queensland to study.”

What makes them a great couple

We work really well as a team, and have the same goals and outlook on our lives and future together. Daniel and I both work long hours and lead busy lives, so we make the most of the time we do have together – making sure to schedule in date nights where we can and put aside time to chill out together on the weekends. We also really respect one another and try to talk things out instead of bottling things up or arguing unnecessarily.

Wedding priorities

“Budget and organisation was really key for me, as I didn’t want things to get out of hand or to get stressed through the planning stages. I started booking the key items (venue, photographer, etc.) straight away and then took my time from there locking away the other minor details.”

 “I stayed at my Mum & Dad’s apartment the night before, where I had some quality time with them and my bridesmaids.”

 “My friends, bridesmaids and family – particularly my Mum – were with me every step of the way through the planning process. From dress fittings, to picking out bridesmaids dresses and accessories, to helping calm me down during little stressful moments and assure me everything will be okay.

“While I did a lot of the planning and research myself, I always discussed my ideas with those around me (forever texting Pinterest photos!) and they all had great advice. We involved our parents in helping to choose all the details for the ceremony and reception, particularly menus.”

 “I wanted to be able to relax and enjoy the time as much as possible, particularly as we had friends and family coming to spend time with us from overseas.”

 “Our families and many of our guests stayed at the resort for the week of the wedding, which was a really lovely experience in getting to spend time with our guests before and after the wedding.”

Before their ceremony on the Pandanus Lawn at Novotel Twin Waters Resort, Richelle and Brent made their way to one another by Kombi for a First Look photo shoot. After their six-year engagement, once the celebrations began, they didn’t want a long delay between the ceremony and reception, having their family and friends waiting for their return. This was a choice they were supremely happy with, as it set the tone for a beautiful Novotel Twin Waters wedding day. 

The focus of the day was relaxed fun, and having enough opportunity to spend quality time with each of their guests, who consisted of an intimate gathering of 66 people – immediate family and their very closest friends. This, along with the decision to have a cocktail reception, allowed the close knit group to mingle well, enjoying the sand between their toes on the beach under a tipi complete with fairy lights.

Also our guests loved walking from ceremony straight into reception with no waiting, we were only 40 mins behind them instead of 2-3 hours and we got to make the most of the reception too.”

 “My Dad walking me down the aisle was a special moment as he had suffered a severe stroke when we started planning our wedding for the first time a few years ago and couldn’t walk for a long time. I don’t know who cried more, me or Dad!”

 “Our mothers weren’t aware till the moment that they were signing the wedding certificate when it was announced by the celebrant. It was a nice way to have the special women in our lives involved, they were so happy.”

 “My advice to future brides is to keep a folder sectioned and organised and a vision board – it really does help to see what you want and lets the vendors see your dream as well. Keep a tick list all the things to cover and delegate jobs to your future husband that are good man jobs – cars, music and cake flavour selection.”

 “We planned a fun, casual, but stylish, party style as we love good music. We wanted to dance and laugh lots, to feel comfortable in a setting that would be something to remember – Kombis, a tipi, fairy lights, the open air and flowers everywhere! It turned into a barefoot wedding reception and that worked perfectly in with the rest.”

 “Cocktails and canapés saves the stress of seating arrangements and is so much more social and easy to get around to everyone.”

When trying to imagine a more fun way than the marryoke film to look back on your wedding day, I’m coming up short. What is marryoke? It is a play on words, my friends, by the marriage (pun intended) of the words “marry” and “karaoke”. It’s marryoke. 

Never fear, there is no actual singing involved. This is more of a miming situation. And in the era of musical.ly, there is plenty of opportunity to fine tune your marryoke skills before the big day.

Why let me explain marryoke to you when you can simply watch that there film just above these here words of Carly and Matt’s wedding at Novotel Twin Waters Resort. No further explanation will be required. I’ll give you three minutes or so…. 

Wasn’t that fun?! 

Carly and Matt sang and danced, and roped their whole bridal party and all their guests into singing and dancing to a modern day classic – Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling”, and cinematographer Bernadette Dfaffin pieced all those little moments together to create a seriously fun marryoke film. I don’t know about you, but I usually need to know the people making fools of themselves to really make the most of the experience, but dang it if this isn’t the best fun to watch in three minutes or less. 

Although… I did keep my eyes peeled for our very own Darienne Davis the couple’s celebrant, who makes a delightful cameo at precisely 2:40. 

In short, marryoke has this bridal blogger’s tick of approval, so I say go for it! You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll cringe… but most of all, you will have a whole lot of fun making and replaying this little golden nugget of wedding memorabilia over and over for years to come. Just make sure you choose a song that will stand the test of time!

Nezz and Andrew fell in love amidst a spirited teenage shaving cream fight. True story. 

Andrew, the larrikin, obviously had his eye on young Nezz (I mean, could you blame him?) as he went out of his way to single her out to douse her in shaving cream – now that’s what I’d call a “meet cute”. In all seriousness it was the stuff young love is made of, and seven years later Andrew made it official when he proposed to his sweetheart.

I’m can’t say for sure they’ve made shaving cream fights something they do on each anniversary, but I’d like to hereby officially suggest it. And not only for Nezz and Andrew, because I feel we could all use a little shave cream romance in our lives. Just don’t come crying to me if you get it in your eye.

If you have three minutes to spare, you really need to spend it being shocked by how creative wedding films can be nowadays. Husband and wife team (or as they describe themselves “underling and #girlboss”), Kris and Delyse from Jasper and Ruby Visions have managed to surprise me with their repertoire of creativity over the years, because none of their films look like the last.

While many wedding videographers engage in a formula approach to their work, Jasper and Ruby Visions shake it up every time, creating custom wedding films with life and emotion. 

This one for Amanda and Shaun’s Novotel Twin Waters Resort wedding is cute and fun, and set to the tunes of local Sunshine Coast indie artist, Christian Patey.
