To create this rustic romantic style, Jess from Little J Designs went with a creative consolidation of pink English Roses and natives with a King Protea to tie them all together.

The brief

Bridget and Sam had a specific idea in mind for their custom-designed stationery suite, and set Jess to task with their instruction to include beautiful pink English Roses.

The design

Included in the suite were save the date cards in a soft pastel green with inverted lettering, staying within the colour palette yet adding an interesting contrast element. It was important to Bridget and Sam to bring in a rustic touch to the design, which Jess found creative ways to achieve.

Jess explains, “I paired a natural twine and light kraft envelopes with the suite to add of touch of rustic to the romantic florals.”

Anyone else have a paper products addiction? There is a chance I may soon need an intervention. The number many yet-to-be-used pretty notebooks I have in my office drawer are creeping up to the dozens. I can’t get enough of running my hands over those sweet, sweet pages of crisp delight.

Considering my creepy obsession, you can imagine my excitement when we recently welcomed local Sunshine Coast stationery designer, Lu Lu Letterpress into the fold here at The Bride’s Tree. If there is one thing that gets me more excited than a new notebook, a new season of Orphan Black on Netflix, and a new flavour of Tim Tams combined, it’s a boutique stationery designer offering letterpress invitations and stationery suites.

Letterpress printing requires great attention to detail, with each colour requiring a separate press and has therefore been widely superseded by digital printing methods. Designer, Sophie, says it is a labour of love, but the final printed piece is a beauty to behold. Oh yes, m’lady, it sure is.

Today we have a whole Pinboard gallery of stationery stills for you to devour. Then just close your eyes and imagine running your hands over every little letterpress groove… Okay, I get how this sounds. I’m going to stop now before I come home to find a collection of loved ones in my living room, toting prepared speeches on iPads (incase palm cards get me too riled up) and my best interests at heart. Then they take me away to endure the controversial, but effective, Paper Cut Therapy I deserve…

It is so easy to start what you believe to be a conservative list and find it adds up to 200 people. Collectively, you and your partner probably know a stack of people! And then there are your parents' friends, relatives that expect an invitation, assumptive co-workers… It can all get quite out of hand!

Here are some handy tips to get your guest list under control:

1. Sit down with your partner and make a list of everyone you can think of that may warrant an invitation. Ask your parents for their lists of must-haves, too. Especially if they are contributing towards the cost of the wedding, they will most likely expect some input.

2. When it comes to friends, apply the 12-month rule. If you haven’t been involved in each other’s lives within the past 12 months, you don’t need to invite them. Same with relatives, but make it five years – if you haven’t seen them in the past five years, and don’t expect to in the next five, cross them off. Of course, use some discretion for your fave cousin you are forced to catch up with only via Skype because she has been residing in the South of France for a decade. If for no other reason than you might want to crash at her place when you honeymoon Europe, *wink*.

3. Address the invitation only to the people you intend to invite, and specify if it is a child-free event. If your single friends are seeing somebody, find out their name and address it accordingly. Do not put “Name and Guest”, because if the relationship ends, your friend may feel the need to find a random to bring along, which you probably don’t want at your wedding. Alternatively, don’t include a date invitation at all, simply invite your friend.

4. Unless you have formed a real friendship, where you spend time together outside of work, don’t feel pressured to invite work colleagues. However, some strategic invitations to bosses and superiors may not be a bad thing for your future with the company!

5. Once you have done the count and no doubt discovered you are way over the mark, start culling. Ask your parents to cross a few off their lists, too. Don’t get frustrated with them if they are adamant about keeping Great Uncle Ted on there. Simply point out all of the people you have had to cull, and try to engage in some fair compromising.

6. Keep a second list of people to invite if you get some people from your initial short list regretfully decline. Organise them in order of priority and have their invitations ready to go as spaces open up.

7. It is not necessary to make sure both sides have an equal number of guests. It is more important that everybody who is invited is genuinely important to one or both parties. Don’t try to play catch-up if one side far outweighs the other due to a larger family or the location making it difficult for people from one side to attend. Instead, don’t have “sides” of the ceremony location – ask your ushers to direct everyone to stand or site wherever they like.

Emma Nayler Photographer is responsible for this beautiful photo. Of course it's not a Sunshine Coast wedding, but it's the very special wedding of a very special Sunshine Coast couple and I was lucky enough to attend as a guest. Congratulations Kate and Andy, married just last week!

Ooh, what a splendid idea – fabric wedding invitations! The very clever Michelle of Stand Tall Design has put together this amazing wedding stationery, all based around a piece of fabric she had in the back of her cupboard. Not at all a sewer, Michelle took to the machine like a fish to water (okay, she actually admits it was a bit trickier than this, but got there in the end!), and the end result is this stunning stationery range, including the matching bomboniere jam jar label and fabric lid cover. Cute! Michelle says she can create a stationery range...

We really love anything paper at The Bride's Tree, and particularly love a beautifully designed wedding invitation on card or paper you just want to run your fingers over. You know when you get an invitation like that and you really just want to keep touching it, but you also don't want to, incase you wreck it? And then if someone else wants to touch it, all of a sudden it's time to get it up under a magnet and out of harm's way. "Oh, yeah… look, I think I'd better just put this up. Don't want to forget the date. Up it goes! There. Perfect. No – uh – forgetting that one." Surely not just me?

Then the wedding day arrives and your guests will see how much thoughtful effort you have put into the stationery at the wedding itself as well! Menus, placecards, bomboniere tags, order of events – the possibilities are endless! At least… if you have an amazing stationery designer, like Ink Wedding Invitations, who do beautiful work like these little lovelies right here.

Kerrie-Anne is so thoughtfully creative. The groom had written a poem for his betrothed, which was to be used in the stationery. Of course, Kerrie-Anne could have simply had it printed on a page. But alas no, instead she had a stamp made and stamped the poem on canvas sewn to the navy card. Incredible, and packaged up stunningly with glossy black ribbon to bring in the sense of occasion.

The ceremony programs also featured exerpts from the groom's beautiful poem.

There is nothing, absolutely nothing, I love more than beautiful stationery. There is just something about the crisp edges of printed paper, and the way the ink dries so precisely… Seriously, stationery of any kind (total Office Works nerd here!) really excites me, but none more than this absolutely beautifully designed collection from Stand Tall Design.

Sunshine Coast graphic designer, Michelle Weller, has created this French Country wedding stationery range, incorporating gorgeous typography, textured paper and 3D elements. Having professionally designed, personalised wedding stationery adds a lot of class to your special day, and your guests will really appreciate the continuity throughout your wedding theme. Michelle's wedding stationery packages are fully customised, so everything required to construct the invitations is included. How very convenient indeed!

As you will see below, this particular wedding stationery package includes everything from invitations, menus, and order of service to welcome sign and other signage, tags, seating plans and favour wraps.

Seriously, this stationery collection alone is enough to inspire one to take on the French Country theme for one's Sunshine Coast wedding, don't you think? And I LOVE the colours! That blue is to die for!
