Sarah loves Ross | Point Cartwright Elopement

IMG_9581

Having a small, intimate beachside wedding ceremony at Point Cartwright followed by a private chef-catered dinner in the family home on the canals of Mooloolaba turned out to be everything they never knew they wanted in their wedding day, says bride, Sarah.

Since they ran out of time to visit the area, Sarah and Ross used Google Earth to choose their exact ceremony spot and boy, did they do good! The stunning outlook over Point Cartwright Beach made the perfect backdrop for their Sunshine Coast elopement.

Sarah has shared the full story of hers and Ross’ Point Cartwright elopement below.

What made you decide to elope?

We made the decision to elope due to a number of things such as the covid restrictions around dancing/mingling potentially really altering our wedding day vision, as well as some of our closest family being stuck in Melbourne, and also…me being pregnant!

Was it a hard decision?

Initially it did feel hard and a bit stressful! However once the decision was made (we moved our big celebration at Aquila Retreat till next October) I focused on creating a really magical day this year and was really relaxing and all about us. Funnily enough we now feel like we have the best of both worlds!

Tell us about what you did on the day.

The boys went out for breakfast while the girls got started on hair and makeup at our unit. I had my favourite music on, and did up some platters for us, and the whole morning was super chilled – we actually were running ahead of time!
We had our first look photos there, then headed to the ceremony together. It was the most stunning day with blue sky and wispy clouds, and when we were standing at the altar I couldn’t get over how stunning our spot was.
We did some sneaky photos together in a little forest path after the ceremony then met our guests at Ross’s parents’ place for the reception. Then it was drinks and canapés, and I took my shoes off straight away!
We had the most incredible 7-course degustation from 6:00, then carried on with drinks in the lounge setting by the pool. It felt so ‘us’ and we both couldn’t get over how perfect the entire day was!

What was something important to you that you simply had to include?

As we are both food and wine lovers, we wanted these parts of the celebration to stand out and reflect us as a couple. We loved choosing a mixture of all our favourite drops for the day, and decided to do a degustation with a private chef for our reception.
Our chef, Alan, was just incredible – he created a personalised menu, used all local producers, and talked to us about the flavour combinations and cooking techniques in each course. All our guests raved about the dinner, and it was definitely a highlight of our day!

Share a special moment from the day.

We loved getting first look photos at our unit overlooking the ocean! It was so nice to take time out together before the ceremony and get lost in the moment.
Seeing each other beforehand made it feel like the day was just for us and helped settle the nerves – we also loved getting chauffeured to the ceremony together in a gorgeous black Jag convertible.

Any regrets?

We had no regrets at all. I put so much research into finding the absolute best suppliers and they made our day so perfect. It was so relaxing for us and there were so many special moments. Having beach side ceremony and an intimate dinner reception at the family home on the canals at Mooloolaba turned out to be everything we never knew we wanted!

Where did you spend your Honeymoon?

We spent a week at Mapleton Springs B&B which we have stayed at before. I wanted to go back there as it was so comfortable and modern (a huge comfy king size bed), the hosts are so lovely, and there’s a big infinity pool overlooking the valley. Such a great place to completely switch off and enjoy our first week as a married couple!
