Morgan & Co. is a family owned and run Sunshine Coast jewellers with mother and daughter team, Laura and Morgan, at the helm. You might say jewels and diamonds are in their blood, as Laura will explain how the seed of passion for precious stones was planted as a child in the Q&A below.

She feels immensely proud and grateful to have teamed up with her daughter, Morgan, who is the face behind the brand and creative powerhouse behind their marketing and online presence. While Laura’s strengths lie in her love of sourcing fine jewellery, beautiful gemstones and gold for their clients.

This dynamic duo are all about creating custom designed engagement rings, wedding rings, and all other kinds of jewellery with a unique guarantee that the client will love their piece, or have it remade for free.

Their passion for design, repurposing old jewellery into new pieces and creating lasting friendships with their clients is evident in the beautiful business they have created together. Read on to learn more about Laura and Morgan, and all things Morgan & Co. as Laura responds to my burning questions about what it’s like to run a premium jewellers on the Sunshine Coast.

How did you get into working with jewels?

I have always been around the jewellery business. My father was a gold and diamond trader most of his life. Thought out my primary and early secondary years I would accompany my father on jewellery and diamond buying trip around New Guinea and Asia. Diamonds have always been my number one favourite gem stone. I have education in diamond buying and jewellery design. Morgan & Co. is not a job, it’s my passion.

What’s something unique about your Sunshine Coast jewellers?

We understand that creating the perfect engagement ring can be a daunting task and what sets us apart is our Ring Guarantee — if our client designs a ring for their loved one, and for any reason their partner isn’t completely thrilled with the design, we will remake it free of charge using the existing stones. This helps our clients feel confident in their decision, as well as keeping the surprise element to their proposal. We understand that designing an engagement ring is a significant moment, and we want it to be absolutely perfect. No jewellery company I know offers such a unique promise.

Additionally, we offer discreet consultations, in the privacy of our Buderim-based studio. This allows our clients to explore our collection of engagement rings in a comfortable and pressure-free environment. Our goal is to create a supportive and welcoming atmosphere where our clients feel empowered to express their love and commitment through a meaningful and thoughtfully chosen engagement ring.

Our greatest challenge in business is…

We live in an Instagram, Facebook and social media dominated world. I find the whole online presence to promote business daunting. Understanding Google ads and how to get your business recognised is no easy task. We have used a few marketing companies, but have found that the best people that understand your business is the business owners themselves. Morgan has spent many hours learning online marketing concepts and this has changed our business dramatically for the better.

The best thing I ever did was…

The best thing I ever did was move back from Switzerland during Covid and create Morgan & Co Jewellery with my beautiful daughter, Morgan.

What’s trending in engagement rings in 2024?

We are finding that many of our couples are opting for custom-designed engagement rings featuring alternative gemstones like sapphires, morganite or even coloured diamonds to add a unique touch to their rings.

With the increasing awareness of environmental and ethical concerns, there is a growing demand for engagement rings made from recycled gold or ethically sourced gemstones.

You have a completely free day to hang out on the Sunshine Coast. Get out about! Where are you going, what are you doing and who are you with?

Well, where to begin? First thing is to go to the gym; it’s my happy place. Next is a trip to Peregian Beach – I love the vibe, the coffee and the shopping. Next, catch up with my two grandchildren, take them to the beach to ride along the foreshore on their bikes and stop off for an ice cream. I love going out for dinner, so I would catch up with my friends and enjoy a night out at one of my favourite Sunshine Coast restaurants.

What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?

I grow up in the highlands of New Guinea, in a town called Mt Hagen. My parents ran luxury resorts. We had many travelling sales people stay at the resort, and amongst them were diamond and gem dealers. My father was always buying and selling diamonds he sourced from remote areas of New Guinea. Dad would take me on many of these missions to find sellers of gold and diamonds within the surrounding villagers. I’m sure that is were my love of diamonds and jewellery has stemmed from.

What do your happy clients always say after having worked with you?

When the men come into our studio with or without their partners, they always comment on how much they enjoyed the process that our team at Morgan & Co. provide.

Many comments we hear are, “I did not expect how much fun I would have designing a ring for my partner.” And, “Morgan & Co. have made the process so easy, so informative, and taken away the fear and anxiety when it comes to choosing the perfect ring for my partner.”

Gazing out on the horizon for golden hour, making most use of the light and shadows, Sunshine Coast wedding photographer, Jacob Vinall, captured this bridal model magnificently.

Model Daneka wore removable billowing tiered sleeves with the lace applique silhouetted bridal gown. Hot tip: if you really want some dreamy shots at sunset, wear a long tulle veil that will give you so much gorgeous movement in your photos. It also serves as a real life filter for those softer shots and the ultimate bridal style.

Bridal Hair & Makeup

Bridal hair and makeup was a classic, yet modern design. If you want to ask your makeup artist for this exact look that Melita McDonnell Makeup Artist applied, you’ll want to say you’d like a soft glam eye, blended to be gently smokey, paired with a nude lip, pink glow to the cheeks and skin that looks like skin with highlights in all the right places.

Daneka’s hair was drawn back into a low textured bun with pretty and significant tendrils curled to frame the face. Did you know that some hair stylists will be able to trim your front layers a smidge if you need to have your style sit just right on your wedding day? The trick is you want to make sure your hair stylist is an experienced hairdresser as well, like all the styling team from Evalyn Parsons. If they need to do this for you, they’ll be sure to do it in a way that will mean you’ll still be happy with the length after the wedding day when your hair is worn as you regularly style it day-to-day.

Mediterranean Wedding In Noosa | PART TWO: Reception Venue Styling

When thinking of a destination wedding in Noosa, you might not initially think Mediterranean. However, I bet after seeing the styling here, you will be planning your own Noosa Mediterranean wedding.

Dreaming of a Noosa wedding or destination wedding that will give you all the holiday vibes, but with a high end luxe feel? I got you with this shoot I put together with some of the Sunshine Coast’s most sought-after wedding vendors, and a few new faces I’m pleased to introduce you to as well.

First things first, an Aperol Spritz on arrival to set the tone for this Mediterranean style reception at Noosa wedding venue, Noosa Waterfront Restaurant & Bar.

Destination Wedding in Noosa

We wanted this wedding inspiration shoot to feel like a true destination wedding – a world away in ultimate luxury. Noosa is a dream wedding location for couples the world over, but additionally our venue is tucked away in a secluded spot on the Noosa River that certainly makes you feel like you’ve found yourself your own secret spot to celebrate your wedding.

Coming straight from Mykonos Luxury Villa to Noosa Waterfront Restaurant & Bar is a seamless transition for a Mediterranean wedding theme. The restaurant venue’s modern Italian menu and interior styling, along with its riverfront location, were the ideal choice – especially being only a quick 15-minute drive apart.

Stying the tablescape in a Mediterranean vibe using this year’s Pantone Colour of the Year, Peach Fuzz, was the brief and Sunshine Weddings absolutely nailed it, complemented by floral designs from Gwen Floral Co. Peach Fuzz Wedding in Mediterranean Style

Many 2024-25 weddings will utilise Pantone’s Colour of the Year, Peach Fuzz, so we wanted to inspire you by utilising the trending colour in a creative way. A Mediterranean style wedding colour palette can be soft and pretty, incorporating fruits for that just-picked-from-the-orchard feel. Actual peaches were the obvious choice and a sweet alternative to the often used citrus for a Mediterranean wedding tablescape.

Stylist Sunshine Weddings amped up the peach with the use of delicate pillar candle in various thickness and heights, as well as tall tapered candles. Soft linen napkins in the palest of pinks were just enough to tie in with the floral centrepieces that layered the colour palette with both pastels and a pop of deeper pink tones also incorporated in the signage.

Live Sketch Artist

Our model was immortalised by Britt Shoo Art, who offers a live sketch service for weddings. We love this idea for weddings! Guests will take home an original artwork of themselves to commemorate the day they celebrated your marriage.

Bridal Jewellery Styling

Our model wears show-stopping jewellery from Leskes Jewellers. Her engagement ring is a Madagascan cushion cut Morganite set in rose gold, paired with a wedding band encrusted with round brilliant cut diamonds.

Am I the drama? I don’t think I’m the drama… maybe I am?

When it comes to jewellery, there’s always room for a little drama! Her statement necklace is a strand of ombré pink Edison pearls, and she wears drop earrings to match. Sometimes more is more, and with a reception mini featuring a giant bow on the back, we say go big with the drama – why not? It’s your big day after all!

Upstyle for the Reception

In Part One of this shoot, our model sported a gorgeous voluminous blow out. For the reception, our wedding hair stylist, Niki Taylor (formerly Sass & Niki’s Wedding Hair), swept up her locks into a glam bun. It’s sleek, yet soft around her face with just the right amount of volume for a flattering bridal hair style.

Our shoot just so happened to fall on a very rainy day, so we decided to demonstrate that opting for an upstyle for the reception is both a beautiful and practical choice. An upstyle wasn’t necessarily in our plan originally, but that’s the beauty of having a hair stylist available for a touch up service – a style change is entirely possible and allows you to roll with the punches on the day. You can’t control the weather, but you can plan ahead to be ready for anything on your wedding day.

In keeping with the fresh, fun theme, the bride wears a tiered tulle dress for the ceremony, changing into a satin slinky number for the reception, both from the Billy J Hen’s Collection. Dresses like these deserve a little bling, so Peregian-based Leskes Jewellers styled both looks with their unique diamond and gemstone engagement rings, sparkling diamond tennis bracelet and matching necklace.

Bright colours have really been making a comeback, but if you prefer to have slightly more muted tones, this colour palette gives you the best of both worlds.

The bridal tablescape has been designed with carefully selected layers offering a diversity in textures, depths and heights. Tall tapered candles placed amongst floral centrepieces that appear to bloom and flourish right out from the table itself bring the most whimsical vibe.

When all is said and done, the cake is eaten, the dress is put away, the flowers wilt and everyone goes home. After your wedding day, the one daily reminder you will hold close – I mean, aside from your actual spouse – is your wedding rings. They will be passed down to your children, if you have some, and they will serve as a symbol of your marital union.

So today I wanted to put out some wedding ring love by sharing these amazing photographs from local Sunshine Coast wedding photographers. The rings in all their differing styles are all beautiful, and I love the creativity behind these images. From atop bouquets and inside books to perched on boots and bow ties, even amidst furniture and ornaments, it’s amazing how many ways these clever folk come up with to make your rings look super cool.

Come brides, let us indulge in a little oggling at the mass amounts of money some people in the world – namely celebrities – spend on engagement rings! Woohoo!

Now my lovely little Sunshine Coast brides, I’m sure you’ll agree, it’s certainly not expected that your man go into debilitating debt to get you the biggest rock in the shop. Just so you know, traditionally the man would save up and spend the equivalent of one month’s salary on your engagement ring. His salary – not Jay Z’s.

Today we bring you cute-as-a-cushion ring holders, sweetly hand-crafted, of course.
