Choosing Our Noosa Wedding Venue

We love the Sunshine Coast, and we love going to the beach so it made sense to us to have a coastal wedding. We came across Noosa Boathouse through instagram and then went to an open day and loved it straight away. The beautiful views overlooking Noosa River and the incredible menu options were a big drawcard.

Our Noosa Wedding Vendors

I can’t fault any of our suppliers, they were all incredible and reliable and brought our vision to life. Angela, our photographer, knows how to make you feel calm and relaxed in front of the camera. Will, our musician, is so incredibly talented and anyone having a wedding on the Sunshine Coast, who wants a great party, should book him. Bernadette, our celebrant, was a perfect fit for us and put together a ceremony that was exactly as we hoped. Bridie, our florist, is so talented and we were both blown away by the flowers- better than we had imagined. Hannah and Tara on hair and makeup work so well together as a team and created a fun morning for my bridesmaids and I, as well as making us feel like princesses and applying makeup and hair styles to last through all day and night

The One Thing We’d Change In Hindsight 

We had our guests on a river cruise to take them from the ceremony location to Noosa Boathouse. We didn’t go on the cruise as we were off getting photos, but everyone said it was so much fun! So if there was a way to get some time on the cruise again, I would try, but it was tricky timing wise to get sunset photos too.

Advice From One Bride To Another

You’re only as stressed as you choose to be. If you have reliable vendors, have faith that they know what they are doing, and if they communicate well it all comes together on the day. So, do your research. But also know if something goes slightly wrong, the only people who will know is you and your partner. And don’t sweat the small stuff, people remember the venue, the views, if the food was delicious – and if they had a great time.

Best money-saving decision: By having the reception at Noosa Boathouse there isn’t a venue hire fee, just a minimum spend on food and beverage, and we didn’t spend money on fancy cars given the access to Maison la plage is via footpath.

How to Book a Beach Ceremony Location in Noosa

As soon as you know your wedding date, if you want to get married in Noosa, you need to act fast. Once the dates are gone they’re gone, so be sure to check the availability of your fave Noosa beach ceremony location ASAP. 

You can do this through the Noosa Shire Council website. Yes, there is a fee and it will be non-refundable. Some areas are able to be booked for 2 hours, while others you can have for up to 3 hours. 

Should you risk not booking and just show up on the day? Absolutely not. If you didn’t go ahead and book it, chances are someone will have – and they will have the power to kick you out of their designated ceremony hour. Definitely don’t risk it! Make the booking and pay the fee, it’s a small price to pay to get a stunning spot in a world-famous Noosa beach spot for your wedding.

It’s a tale as old as time: teacher meets teacher, love blossoms and a Noosa Boathouse wedding ensues.

Seriously, the only thing that comes close to highschool sweethearts is two freshly qualified teachers on their first ever rural service post locking eyes at the local pub in North Queensland. 

Cut to 2023 and Samuel and Leah are saying their vows amongst 100 of their nearest and dearest in a Noosa wedding ceremony. As Sunshine Coast locals themselves, they couldn’t think of a better backdrop for their wedding than Maison La Plage, Noosa with the shore poking through the trees. 

What I love about this wedding is that it’s evident they put a lot of focus on the ceremony and making it really special for themselves and their guests. When going through their album to select images for this article, I almost felt like I was there as Noosa wedding photographer Alan Hughes had captured every special moment so beautifully from every angle. 

Then when reading about what the groom, Samuel, had written about how they felt saying their vows with Noosa celebrant, Philippa Holness,  was the most magical moment of the day and they splurged to make the ceremony extra special, it all made sense. The getting married part was the focus of their day, and the relaxed, atmospheric party at Noosa wedding venue, Noosa Boathouse, was the icing on the cake.

“Flowers were probably our biggest splurge. They make a huge difference to the personality of the day. Generally as well, we wanted to splurge a little on our ceremony. It means the most to us that we got that right. So we had wonderful flowers, a champagne tower and a bar for our guests.”

“I proposed  to Leah on a private handmade boat on Lake Como in Italy. It was one year, to the day, before our ceremony. It was a perfect day on the water and we shared it with Leah’s best friend and sister, Michaela (my photgrapher, who captured the moment). Noosa bride, Phillipa, chose a glam squad that would seamlessly create the fresh, bridal look she wanted. The Proposal

“I am a BIG Christmas lover. So, in true Christmas form we were completing our couple advent calendar in 2021 with handwritten activities to complete daily. I was predicting and not so subtly hinting to Trent that we should get engaged in the New Year.

‘When our daily advent calendar task was a home cooked meal under the Christmas tree, I wasn’t surprised when I came home to Trent having had prepared a fancy steak with wine on a picnic rug under the tree. We had a romantic dinner amongst the twinkling lights with our 2 dogs sitting with us. Trent proceeded to reach under the Christmas tree and grab a small ‘gift’. He didn’t even ask me the question, I just said yes.”

Unforgettable Moments

“I was most emotional in the lead up to walking down the aisle. The nerves really hit you when the moment is actually happening, and you are the main event! I didn’t know if I was going to cry, faint or laugh!

“I’ll never forget reading a poem at the start of the ceremony for my sister who couldn’t make our wedding day. I’m so glad I was brave enough to read it because it’s something I will cherish forever.”

“We always knew we would get married on the coast. We grew up near Maleny so wanted to branch away from the Hinterland and go beachy! Noosa Boathouse offered a gorgeous rooftop Sunset Bar which suited our cocktail lunchtime reception.”

Biggest Challenge

“Hastings Street is very hard to park on! The logistics of moving our guests between our ceremony and reception was our biggest challenge. We booked a private Noosa Ferry to transport our guests to our ceremony. Luckily the Ferry was able to depart right from the reception jetty. It was great! That way no one had to struggle to get a park and just enjoy the ride!”

Wedding Secrets

Biggest splurge: Our biggest splurge was booking the MV Catalina Noosa for a two-hour sunset cruise after our reception. Being a Winter wedding, we decided to have a lunch time reception, but we still wanted to dance and sip on cocktails! The Catalina was the perfect splurge so we could enjoy the Noosa River with groovy tunes and continue the celebration.

Best money-saving decision: We were still able to have the wedding of our dreams without an outrageous price tag by keeping our guest list low and intimate. We only invited our dearest friends and family.

DIY: I DIYed my wedding shoes by decorating them with pearl beads. “Crazily Trent and I met in Grade 3 of Primary School. I was the new girl on the block in a small-town, country school. We started officially dating in Year 10 of High School, but most people would agree that we had eyes for each other since we were 8 years old.

“It was always going to be Trent. He has been my friend since Primary School. He is the calm to my crazy and sees the world through such a simple lens. He is kind, caring and big kid at heart. There was never any doubt that we would get married one day!”

“I was so worried about it raining on the day that I didn’t even consider it being really sunny! I would have told our guests to bring sunglasses, or hats for the day because our guests were in the sun during our ceremony and on the cruise.”

Having had their big wedding plans in the UK derailed due to Covid (ugh, not that guy again… so annoying!), Sarah and Brian threw out all their preconceived ideas of what their wedding should be and decided their union was what mattered most.

After successfully having a Perth wedding, complete with streamed ceremony for those who couldn’t attend, they decided a year later to renew their vows to be sure to mark the occasion properly with their parents now able to be there.

The new priority was simply to enjoy the day with family – lots of laughter, photos and quality time together. So they hired an Airbnb for a simple private backyard wedding ceremony, and followed it up with a catered dinner and beautifully styled beach picnic on Noosa’s Main Beach.

The Proposal

We had our ring made together, but I didn’t know when it would happen. Nathan planned a very special summer solstice/eclipse sunset proposal by the waterfront with all of my favourite girls, my mum and grandma (and grandad) to be apart of the proposal. He learned and proposed to me in Japanese, as our lives are heavily influenced by Japan.

How We Met

We met when I began my career as a high school teacher at the same school. We clicked instantly and spent a year getting to know each other. Now, all the people who were around us said they could see our chemistry, even before we saw it ourselves. We spent a lot of time laughing and joking around, and built such a strong foundation for a long lasting marriage, without even knowing it!

Why I Married Him

Nathan and I have so much fun with each other, every single day. We can go a whole day sitting on the couch being silly together and it can feel like the best day. We just want to be around each other all the time and support each other through everything, we really are best friends.

Our Top Wedding Priority

One of our main priorities was to make sure that all of our family and close friends were with us on the day. We also had to be by the beach (a must for me!). We wanted the day to feel completely relaxed and very intimate. I have been mega obsessed with weddings since I was very little and Nathan knew this, so he made sure that I could have everything that was important to me for our special day.

Biggest Wedding-Planning Challenge

We originally spent a year planning our wedding in Byron Bay and had to do a quick 3 week turnaround when we couldn’t get through the borders. We didn’t want to postpone being married so we decided to do what we could to create a new wedding with the resources and time we had. We were so fortunate to have incredible and supportive suppliers who were flexible and generous throughout the (short) process and made our day happen! Our second planned wedding was even better and more aligned with what we wanted anyway, so we are so thankful! I highly recommend reassessing a second time around after the decisions have been made and the pressure is off, I made a lot better choices this time!

The Location

Noosa was always a special place to me, with lots of memories of childhood family holidays. The boardwalk and beach along Noosa Heads Main Beach has always been the epitome of coastal luxury to me. I couldn’t have imagined being anywhere else on my wedding day now. Even Byron Bay can’t offer a backdrop as beautiful as that.

Noosa Waterfront Restaurant was incredible at making sure we had everything we wanted, genuine staff with amazing service and everyone went out of their way to create a special event for us.

Wedding Secrets

Biggest splurge: Photographer, Beck is THE BEST. Accommodation, it was such a good decision to splash out on a beautiful place to get ready with views and space as well as it was a nice place to come back to and wake up the next day at with our post wedding glow.

Best money-saving decision: Using as much from the restaurant for styling as possible to save money so you can spend on a couple of extras like charger plates and pillar candles to style venue. Don’t feel bad to splash out on the few things you know will elevate the day and make you happy when you look back on it.

Honeymoon: Waiting to return to Japan for a long adventure, so a week in Hamilton Island before Christmas was the next best thing.

Wedding budget: $25,000

Actual cost of wedding: $40,000 (after we paid for two weddings!) Not including first wedding costs we didn’t get back Wedding 2.0 probably costed about $30,000.

Although their original planned wedding with 80 guests in March 2020 had to be postponed, bride Hannah says she couldn’t be happier with the day she wed her love, Tom. Their intimate private property wedding in Noosa turned out to be an authentic reflection of them as a couple. 

After a beach wedding ceremony at Hidden Grove on Noosa’s Main Beach, the couple and their 29 guests headed back to their private property for a catered reception.

The Bride’s Best Advice

Take some quality time for you and your partner before the madness of your day begins. Tom and I snuck away for an early morning beach swim and coffee on the morning of our wedding. The rest of the wedding day was such a blur, but I’m glad we got those quiet moments just us two before it all started. Looking back now, it is one of my favourite memories from our wedding day.

Biggest Wedding-planning Priority

Our priorities really shifted after having to cancel our original wedding due to COVID-19. It made us focus in on what was truly important – getting married to each other in the company of our closest friends and family. We also wanted our day to be laid back and authentic to us as a couple.

Greatest Challenge During the Process

COVID-19! We had originally planned to get married in March 2020, with 80 guests and at a different venue. Unfortunately, a week before the wedding, COVID reared its ugly head and we had to cancel our original plan. After that, we decided that a big wedding just wasn’t going to happen in 2020, so we downsized our plans. We ended up having an intimate wedding at Hidden Grove, followed by a reception at a private property.

Our Meet Cute

Tom was the IT guy at the hospital where I worked and had to deal with my constant calls to fix a myriad of computer problems… One night we ran into each other at a bar and recognised each other from work. After that we hit it off right away!

Why I Married Tom

Tom is the kindest, most patient person I’ve ever met. He is so full of joy and makes me laugh every single day. It was really a no-brainer!

Wedding Secrets

Biggest splurge: Luxe accommodation for the wedding weekend for us and our whole bridal party.

Honeymoon: Tasmania

Planning resources: Mostly Instagram.

Lauren says one of the most emotional moments of her wedding day was when guests performed The Haka in tribute to her groom, James’ Maori heritage. Lauren and James loved the wedding planning process, getting super involved by doing lots of DIY for their wedding reception at Noosa Boathouse. The bride was kind enough to share her story with us below… 

Our Biggest Priority

We wanted to ensure that our guests had an absolutely amazing time and got to experience as much of beautiful Noosa as possible. Our guests travelled from all over Australia, including Western Australia and Victoria, the Gold Coast and New Zealand, and for pretty much all of them it was their first time visiting Noosa.

Moments of High Emotion

The day was full of emotion – seeing James get so emotional as I was walking down the aisle, having James’ Dad open our ceremony with a Maori prayer. The Haka and speeches were very emotional too.

Why James is The One 

Loving him is easy. He’s my best friend. He is kind-hearted and loving, sensitive yet strong, dedicated, determined, and most of the time, patient!

Our Next Adventure

We’re getting stuck back into renovating our first home and will hopefully buy our second home soon!

The Music

We had a lot of songs from our favourite Aussie and New Zealand bands, including Ocean Alley and Six60. Benny Hanna did an amazing job playing a mix of acoustic sets and DJ-ing at the Boathouse.

A Simple Proposal

It’s pretty simple really, James and I were back home in Perth (my home town) for a holiday and on our final morning, at my parents house, just as we were waking up he got down on one knee and asked the question. We had designed the ring together, so I knew it was coming, I just didn’t know when!

Greatest Challenge

Probably putting together our guest list!

Wedding Secrets

Biggest splurge: It would probably have been the boat cruise from the ceremony in Noosa Heads to the reception in Noosaville. I also surprised James and our guests with Wheel & Spoon (a gelato cart) at our ceremony.

Biggest money-saver: Probably using a bunch of furniture from the Noosa Boathouse and all of the DIY I/we did!

Planning resources: The Brides Tree certainly helped! Instagram and Facebook were also really beneficial. Deciding on the Noosa Boathouse for our reception early on in the planning process and checking out their recommended vendors was a great place to start. I also attended a Sunshine Coast Wedding Open Day early on in the planning stages to meet vendors I was interested in.

DIY: Stationery, decorations, grazing board for the boat, family photo display, wishing well, photo booth props, dessert table, cake topper, “Better Together” backdrop frame, wooden easel. 

Honeymoon: Fiji

Number of guests: 80

Wedding budget: Honestly we didn’t really have a budget. Not because I wasn’t budget conscious, purely because I had no idea what to expect in terms of how much anything would cost. I did a lot of research and gathered a number of quotes from vendors before locking anything in. 

Actual cost of wedding: Close to $40,000
